Title: Scientist I - GMP Biologics
Duration: 12 months contract
Location: West Point, PA 19486
Shift: Standard Business Hours (overtime, weekends, and occasional 2nd/3rd shift required)
Position Summary
• Work within the Biologics Pilot Plant (BPP) Process Operations Team supporting GMP manufacture of biologic and vaccine bulk clinical supplies.
• Execute cell bank manufacturing and upstream cell culture unit operations.
• Collaborate in cross-functional, matrixed teams across process development, engineering, quality, and GMP compliance.
• Support pilot-scale campaigns including preparation, execution, and closeout activities.
Responsibilities
Upstream & Cell Culture Operations
• Execute cell bank manufacturing and upstream unit operations such as mammalian/yeast/bacterial cell expansion and virus/protein expression.
• Operate single-use disposable systems and/or stainless-steel bioreactors.
Downstream Support
• Support downstream operations including normal flow filtration, tangential flow filtration, homogenization, lyophilization, chromatography, and centrifugation.
GMP Operations & Documentation
• Prepare critical documents including standard operating procedures and batch records.
• Complete production readiness activities such as equipment cleaning and steam sanitization.
• Ensure compliance with GMP and regulatory guidelines.
Process & Equipment Support
• Evaluate and integrate innovative technology and process equipment.
• Develop equipment specifications and participate in start-up activities.
• Troubleshoot process unit operations.
Team Leadership & Collaboration
• Work in a multi-disciplinary project team environment.
• Lead process unit operation teams and manufacturing steps.
• Plan, communicate, and lead small groups to achieve tactical objectives.
Qualifications
Education:
• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Chemical Engineering or Biological Sciences
Experience:
• 1-3 years of relevant experience
• GMP manufacturing and/or process development cell culture activities (mammalian, bacterial)
Skills:
• Working knowledge of cGMP, Quality Systems, and safety for operations
• Teamwork and collaboration in cross-functional environments
• Self-motivated with ability to work in a fast-paced setting
• Organizational, problem-solving, and project management skills
• Technical expertise in cell culture unit operations (vial thaw, shake flasks, cell stacks, incubation, harvest/centrifugation, vial filling, freeze/thaw recovery)
• Experience leading small teams in a matrixed organization preferred
