Summary

You will serve as a FIRE SUPPRESSION SYSTEMS MECHANIC (WATER-BASED) in the FS BRANCH FAC SUS SHOP TECH SUP SEC of NAVFAC ENGINEERING CMD MID-ATLANTIC.

Duties

You will install, maintain, repair, inspect, and test complex and integrated facility-level water-based fire suppression systems and related equipment.You will perform system operability tests (such as pressure and discharge flow), resolve any identified problems, and coordinate with fire alarm or special hazard mechanics.You will execute engineering technician-level hydraulic calculations to ensure proper sprinkler coverage and appropriate water application rates.You will follow prescribed job plans for routine procedures and electronically document all installations, maintenance, testing, repairs, and system impairments.You will stay current with national code standards, DoD/DoN criteria, and industry technological changes while providing guidance to less experienced personnel.

This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. Applicants who do not receive a minimum of two points on the screen-out element(s) will be found ineligible. The Screen-out Element for this position is: 1) Assisting in the basic maintenance and repair of water-based fire suppression piping and equipment. 2) Helping with routine testing of system components to ensure basic functionality. 3) Utilizing tools and technical manuals to perform simple repairs under instruction. 4) Following established safety procedures and codes while performing assigned work.
