Cruise Norfolk, our 80,000 square foot terminal, proudly welcomes visitors to The Mermaid City and serves as a gateway to unforgettable travel experiences. We are seeking an Event Coordinator to play a critical role in assisting with daily terminal operations while supporting the seamless coordination of cruise calls, guest services, and on-site activations.
The Event Coordinator for Cruise serves as a liaison between terminal management, contracted service providers, and the public, ensuring quality service is being offered and maintained to enhance visitors’ experience. The ideal candidate will help drive consistency across all touchpoints—balancing logistics, communication, and on-the-ground execution to position Cruise Norfolk as a premier cruise destination.
Department Hiring Salary Range: $56,900 - $65,294
Essential Functions
Essential functions include but are not limited to:
Work requires broad knowledge in a general professional or technical field. Knowledge is normally acquired through four years of college resulting in a Bachelor's degree or equivalent.
Two years of event and/or facilities management, or related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
TWIC card eligibility required
Proficiency in Microsoft Office required
CPR and first aid a plus

Work Location: One Waterside Drive, Norfolk, VA 23510
Work Hours: Friday through Tuesday; typically, 8:30a to 5:00pm but hours will vary on Cruise Turn Days
If you are hired January 1, 2022, or after to a position with Virginia Retirement System (VRS) benefits, you will be required to contribute five percent (5%) of your salary toward your retirement benefit. This will be a pre-tax payroll deduction.

Essential Functions
Essential functions include but are not limited to:
- Oversee daily terminal operations by managing essential logistics and facilitating administrative approvals.
- Drive precision and efficiency during cruise turnover days through proactive, real-time problem solving.
- Execute FSO (Facility Security Officer) duties by maintaining rigorous Port Security files and ensuring all regulatory documentation, signage, and staff training remain current.
- Partner with cross-functional teams and conduct periodic security audits, ensuring the Facility Security Plan remains fully compliant with the latest maritime and port safety standards.
- Performs administrative duties, coordinates meetings and develops required reports and correspondence, and responds to Cruise inquiries from the public.
- Communicate with other staff on facility and equipment set-up options and materials needed to achieve desired results. Ensures adherence to requirements, agreements and contractual obligations.
- Manage comprehensive event and operational logistics by directing personnel scheduling and developing detailed execution plans, including equipment requirements, floor layouts, and AV specifications
- Disseminate critical logistical information to a diverse range of stakeholders, including City personnel, cruise teams, and the public, to ensure seamless coordination and transparency
- Supervise personnel and volunteers during cruise turnovers and port calls.
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time, lift from ground to above shoulder, climb, bend stoop, sit, push, pull and perform tasks requiring manual dexterity.
- Requires working in temperature-variable environments.
