What are the responsibilities and job description for the Postdoctoral position in molecular neurodevelopment position at National Institutes of Health?
The Section on Cellular and Cognitive Neurodevelopment (SCCN), within the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) Intramural Research Program, is recruiting talented Postdoctoral Fellows. The Section is currently looking for candidates with backgrounds in animal/ human molecular, cellular, and physiological neurobiology who want to advance their careers in a world-leading research environment and as part of a dynamic research team.
About the position
Development is an area of neuroscience that is often overlooked in terms of defining the substrate and cause of neurological and psychiatric disorders. Therefore, SCCNs overarching research goal is to probe the putative neural substrate of conditions through a developmental lens. A region of the brain that is of significant focus to SCCN is the pulvinar nuclei of the thalamus, which has expanded in size, complexity, and function throughout mammalian evolution. We are taking an intersectional and multidisciplinary approach to explore the development of thalamocortical circuits in animal models and humans and their plasticity into adulthood. For example, we have previously demonstrated how a small subdivision of the pulvinar is responsible for establishing visually guided reach-and-grasp behaviors, which become disrupted following early-life injury to this area ( https://doi.org/10.1073/pnas.1717016115 ).
What you'll need to apply
Applicants should submit a CV, a 1-2 page description of their research interests and career goals, explaining what they can offer to the current work of SCCN in studying the development of thalamocortical circuits, and the names of three references
