HJF is seeking a Postdoctoral Fellow in the Department of Radiology & Bioengineering with molecular biology and imaging background to develop and conduct research projects and assist on a variety of imaging projects that the Radiology Department supports. The Post Doctoral Fellow would be responsible primarily for working with positron emission tomography (PET) and the associated activities with the animals and bench science techniques, and may also learn some Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) as well. The Department has a large Preclinical imaging core and post processing area that supports a 7T MRI, PET, single photon emission tomography (SPECT), optical imaging and CT. The Post Doctoral Fellow will work primarily with preclinical systems that support rodent and ferret imaging with opportunities to work on a variety of imaging projects.

This position will be in support of the Department of Radiology and Radiological Sciences at the Uniformed Services University (USU). Dr. Hood is the Director of the Biomedical Research Imaging Core (BRIC), a preclinical imaging laboratory of the Department of Radiology that supports small animal research for USU. This position would also work with correlating histology and tissue/blood biomarkers to support imaging findings.

Responsibilities

  • Work to become and Independent User via the Radiation Safety course for Independent User Certification.
  • Oversee the documentation of all imaging procedures as well as the details of the post processing pipelines.
  • Processes and interprets experimental data. Formulates experimental hypotheses and designs experimental protocols.
  • Participates in bench laboratory work such as necropsies, sample preparation, microscopy, etc.
  • Makes scientific observations, maintains detailed workbooks/documentation, and ensures documentation fulfills generally accepted professional/industry standards.
  • Participates in conversations with investigators and contributes to new grant and funding applications.
  • Works with laboratory technicians and students.
  • Prepares written reports, abstracts, and manuscripts for submission to scientific journals and conferences.
  • May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor. This may include attendance of and participation in required training for role.
  • May participate or work with other imaging modalities as opportunities arise.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • Doctorate Degree required.
  • 0-2 years of experience required.
    • Preference for 1-3 years’ experience, but first position after Doctoral degree is acceptable.
Required Knowledge, Skills And Abilities

  • Experience and knowledge of molecular chemistry required and molecular imaging preferred.
  • Knowledge of software such as MATLab, ImageJ, Paravision and statistical software.
  • Knowledge of applicable complex scientific procedures and techniques.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to troubleshoot technical procedures.
  • Ability to work independently and supervise others.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a T1/Public Trust background check.

Physical Capabilities

  • Lifting: Requires lifting materials up to 25 lbs.
  • Ability to stand or sit at a computer for prolonged periods.

Work Environment

  • This position will take place primarily in a laboratory setting.

Compensation

  • The annual salary range for this position is $50,100-$68,000. Actual salary will be determined based on experience, education, etc.
