Description

The Group Facilitator has the ability to be versatile and support all areas of program delivery and program support. This position supports the Groups and Military Program Department with the assessment, planning, implementation, evaluation and administration of recreation program activities for people with disabilities. This position is a part-time, seasonal position from approximately May through September. It is not eligible for remote work.

Requirements

  Typical Duties:

· Assists in assessing, planning, delivering, and evaluating specific adaptive recreation activities including some or all of the following: ski and snowboard, cross country skiing, biathlon, snowshoe, sled hockey, camp activities, climbing wall, ropes course, team building activities, cycling, paddle sports, archery, aquatics, water sports, and training programs. 

· Facilitates and coordinates program logistics before, during, and after all events.

· Facilitates programs and communicates instructions verbally to students during the activity, including but not limited to directives, technique, and feedback.

· Implements and supervises safety/risk management protocols in a caring and fun environment for participants, volunteers, and staff.

· Plans and implements personalized activities and/or games for groups and participants with various disabilities that are appropriate for age, population, and monthly themes of the group.

· Develops goals and objectives for each participant with their input, relative to the day’s activity; documents participants’ goals and objectives; creates and implements behavior management plans; manages behavior of participants during activities; provides input and feedback during program debrief.

· Conducts and maintains lesson documentation as assigned, including participant assessments, lesson plans, progress notes, evaluations, and incident reports.

· Documents and reports all accidents, incidents, and disciplinary concerns to supervisor.

· Creates and delivers training in assigned programs and expertise.

· Leads effort in program volunteer usage and mentors other staff on how to engage volunteers.

· Evaluates and offers regular feedback to supervisor on the performance of other assigned program instructors and volunteers.

· Provides general feedback in a solution-driven, appropriate manner utilizing established means.

· Supports with equipment maintenance, rentals and other needs as assigned; informs supervisor of any equipment concerns, or equipment maintenance needs.

· Assists with overseeing proper use of facilities, equipment, and supplies.

· Assists with preparing site and equipment for activity and with proper clean up and storage at the end of each activity.

· Supports organization with administrative duties such as attendance, evaluations, and training materials.

· Assists with key fundraising events and other special events as needed to help advance program goals and support; serves as an ambassador and representative for the National Ability Center.

· Other duties as assigned.  

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 2-3 years of experience working in a related field such as adaptive sports and therapeutic recreation programs.
  • Valid Driver’s License.
  • Be able to maintain a Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) physical.
  • CPR and First Aid certification, or ability to obtain.
  • Must pass a pre-employment background check. 
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States. We do not sponsor employment visas or other immigration processes to attain or maintain employment eligibility.

Preferred Qualifications:

· Bachelor’s degree in a related field, such as Therapeutic Recreation or Special Education

· Experience working with young adults who have cognitive and intellectual disabilities as well as members of the military with visible and invisible wounds.

· Relevant activity specific certifications (PSIA, AASI, WSI, IMBA).

· Wilderness First Responder (WFR) Certification.

· Knowledge and understanding of people with disabilities.

· Ability to work effectively with children, adults, and members of the armed forces.

· Exhibits strong behavior management techniques and skills.

· Demonstrated ability to write specific, measurable goals and objectives with documentation of goal progression.

· Passion for encouraging independence and growth in all populations and abilities.

  • Strong work ethic to multi-task and accommodate multiple responsibilities and shifting priorities in a quick-paced and      dynamic environment.
  • · Demonstrated responsibility, dependability, and maturity.
  • · Strong interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • · Strong organizational skills required for planning and coordinating all single-day and multi-day programs for groups.
  • · Willing and able to tolerate extended periods in the elements, including sun, snow, and water, oftentimes in extreme weather conditions.
  • · Ability to positively receive and provide feedback and job coaching for development of self and others.
  • Demonstrated ability to work productively and      collaboratively within a team.
  • Commitment to a positive, fun, safe, and      team-oriented working environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to follow all policies and      procedures with the utmost emphasis on prioritizing risk management and      safety at all times.
  • · Proficiency in basic computer programs such as MS Office. Preferred experience in Paylocity and Salesforce.  
  • · Commitment to continuing education in the adaptive recreation field utilizing internal and external resources to ensure our programs sustain continual responsiveness and improvement.
  • · Commitment to a positive, fun, and team-oriented working environment while promoting the NAC Values.
  • · Demonstrated ability and willingness to work productively and collaboratively within a team.

Working Conditions: 

  • Ability to safely lift adaptive equipment up to 50 lbs. in and out of vehicle trailer and storage areas.
  • · Ability to work indoors and outdoors while running programming activities in various weather conditions, including extreme weather conditions.
  • · Ability to drive a truck or van while pulling a trailer.
  • · Available and willing to work a non-traditional schedule that may include occasional evenings, weekends, and holidays, especially as needed for projects and special events.
