Position Summary
Mystic Valley Regional Charter School seeks a knowledgeable and enthusiastic Latin Teacher for Grades 7–12 to join its Languages Department. The successful candidate will deliver rigorous, engaging instruction rooted in the school's Core Knowledge curriculum and instructional methodology.
At the high school level, MVRCS offers the internationally recognized International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme, and teaching assignments may include IB coursework depending on departmental needs and candidate qualifications.
The ideal candidate will possess a strong foundation in Latin language and classical studies, a passion for teaching, and a commitment to helping students develop linguistic proficiency, analytical thinking skills, and an appreciation for the classical world.
Responsibilities
Implement the established Latin curriculum and, when applicable, the International Baccalaureate (IB) curriculum.
Teach up to five daily classes within the assigned subject area.
Deliver engaging, standards-aligned lessons based on clearly defined learning objectives.
Utilize Core Knowledge and IB instructional methodologies with fidelity.
Assess student progress regularly and communicate performance through progress reports, report cards, and conferences as required.
Collaborate regularly with colleagues in the Languages Department, including the Department Chair, on curriculum, instruction, assessment, data analysis, and best practices.
Maintain a structured and orderly classroom environment through consistent implementation of the school's discipline model.
Attend faculty meetings, professional development sessions, and other required school events.
Support school-wide initiatives and contribute positively to the academic culture of the school.
Perform additional duties as assigned by the Languages Department Chair, Assistant Director, Assistant Superintendent, and/or Superintendent/Director.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree required; degree in Latin, Classical Studies, Classics, Ancient Languages, Education, or a related field preferred.
Strong knowledge of Latin language, grammar, literature, and classical civilization.
Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in both oral and written form.
Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to evaluate student performance and use data to inform instructional decisions.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, families, colleagues, and community members.
Commitment to collaboration, continuous improvement, and professional growth.
Ability to plan and implement effective instruction that meets the needs of diverse learners.
Knowledge of applicable educational laws, regulations, and best practices.
Demonstrated ability to support student achievement in a structured, high-expectation environment.
Massachusetts teaching licensure is preferred but not required.
Reporting Structure
This position reports directly to the Languages Department Chair. Appointments are made on an annual basis and are subject to yearly evaluation.
