Job Description
The Science Teacher (Grades 7–12) is responsible for implementing Mystic Valley Regional Charter School's science curriculum and instructional program. Teachers deliver content-rich, rigorous instruction aligned with the Core Knowledge Sequence and its proven pedagogical approach.
At the high school level, MVRCS offers the internationally recognized International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme, and teaching assignments may include IB coursework depending on departmental needs and candidate qualifications.
Responsibilities
Implement the established science curriculum and, when applicable, the International Baccalaureate (IB) curriculum.
Teach up to five daily classes within the assigned subject area.
Deliver engaging, standards-aligned instruction grounded in clear learning objectives.
Utilize Core Knowledge and IB instructional methodologies with fidelity.
Regularly assess student performance and communicate progress through reports, report cards, and conferences as required.
Administer and support standardized testing initiatives as directed by the Science Department Chair and school leadership.
Collaborate regularly with science department colleagues to review curriculum, instruction, assessment practices, data analysis, and pedagogical strategies.
Maintain a structured, orderly classroom environment through the consistent implementation of the school's assertive discipline model.
Attend faculty meetings, professional development sessions, and other required school events.
Perform additional duties as assigned by the Science Department Chair and/or Assistant Director.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Biology, Chemistry, Physics, General Science, or a closely related field required.
Demonstrated knowledge of the assigned scientific discipline(s).
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to analyze information, solve problems, and make sound instructional decisions.
Ability to evaluate student performance and communicate findings effectively.
Strong organizational and time-management skills.
Ability to establish and maintain positive relationships with students, families, colleagues, and community members.
Commitment to working collaboratively within a team-oriented environment.
Ability to plan and deliver instruction that meets school objectives and addresses diverse student needs.
Knowledge of applicable educational laws, regulations, and best practices.
Successful completion of applicable Massachusetts MTEL examinations within one year of employment.
Reporting Structure
This position reports directly to the Science Department Chair. Appointments are made on an annual basis and are subject to yearly evaluation.
