General Summary: Under the direction of the Deputy Commissioner, the Fleet Manager is
responsible for the administration, coordination, and oversight of the
Department of Public Safety vehicle fleet, including law enforcement, detention,
and support vehicles. The position ensures fleet availability, safety, compliance,
and cost- effective operation through preventive maintenance scheduling, repair
coordination, vehicle assignment tracking, and lifecycle management.
The Fleet Manager works collaboratively with command staff, supervisors,
vendors, and internal departments to support operational readiness while
maintaining accurate records and compliance with applicable policies,
regulations, and funding requirements. This position is civilian, non- sworn, and
does not exercise law-enforcement authority
Principal Duties and Responsibilities: Manage and track the Department of Public Safety vehicle fleet, including
patrol units, specialty vehicles, transport vehicles, and support equipment.
Coordinate preventive maintenance schedules, repairs, inspections, and
warranty services to ensure vehicle safety and reliability.
Maintain accurate fleet records, including vehicle assignments, mileage,
maintenance history, fuel usage, and service documentation.
Coordinate vehicle purchases, replacements, upfitting, and
decommissioning in accordance with departmental policy and budgetary
approvals.
Monitor fleet-related expenditures and assist with budget planning, cost
control, and vendor management.
Serve as the primary point of contact with external vendors, repair
facilities, and service providers.
Develop and maintain fleet procedures related to vehicle use, maintenance
reporting, and safety compliance.
Coordinate vehicle availability with supervisors to support operational
needs.
Monitor compliance with insurance, registration, inspection, and safety
requirements.

Assist with accident reporting coordination, vehicle damage assessment,
and repair follow- up.
Prepare fleet- related reports and summaries for management, audits, or
funding requirements.
Maintain confidentiality of fleet, personnel, and operational information.
Perform other administrative or coordination duties related to fleet
operations as assigned.
Minimum Requirements: Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
Experience: Three ( 3) years of experience in fleet management, vehicle
maintenance coordination, logistics, or a related field.
Special Skills: Ability to perform administrative duties requiring prolonged
sitting, computer use, and document management.
Ability to move throughout facilities and fleet areas to inspect vehicles or
coordinate services.
Preferred Requirements: Education: Associate' s or Bachelor' s degree in Business Administration, Logistics,
Automotive Technology, or a related field.
Experience: Experience supporting law enforcement, public safety, or
governmental vehicle fleets.
Familiarity with fleet management systems, maintenance tracking software, or
asset management tools.
Experience coordinating vehicle upfitting or specialty equipment installations.
