What are the responsibilities and job description for the Combine Operator position at Mueller Industries, Inc.?
Combine Operator’s primary responsibility is to operate a series of machines that measures, cuts, and labels coiled or straight lengths of copper tubing from a large stock roll. The machines include the pan/payoff/basket, reactor arm, pre-straightener rollers, wipers, straighteners rollers, tester, metal stamp, link counter, ink stamper, saw or shear, exit rollers, blow off table, and discharge rack. The coils and straight lengths range in diameter from 1/4” to 7/8” and the length ranges from 10’ to 20’. The Operator averages completing 12 basket rolls of stock per shift. 70 to 80 percent of the finished products are straight lengths
1. Operate push button, turn key, touch screen controls and adjustment knobs to engage and disengage the automatic # 8 Combine series of machines.
2. Check completed pieces for quality including label or stamp location, straightness, and diameter of wall width. Completed pieces weigh up to seven pounds.
3. Use hand saw or electric saw to cut off end of stock roll. Then, pull end of stock roll out of basket and lead into rollers, through the saw/shear area, and then through the exit rollers.
4. Open door to saw/shear area and remove jammed or lodged pieces of copper tubing from machine. May require use of electric saw and hammer. Opening door requires up to 15 pounds of force. Moving saw requires 25 pounds of force.
5. Document hourly production with paper and pencil.
6. Change out saw attachment to sheer attachment and back approximately one to three times per week. Requires use of overhead crane to lift saw or sheer attachment and Allen wrenches to loosen and tighten bolts.
7. Place roll of barcodes in machine.
8. Replace wipers.
