What are the responsibilities and job description for the Automation Technician position at Movement Search & Delivery?
Movement Search and Delivery is working with a manufacturing company in Santa Teresa, NM to identify and evaluate an Automation & Controls Technician.
About the Role:
Our client is hiring an Automation & Controls Technician to install, program, troubleshoot, and maintain their automated production equipment — including robotic work cells, PLCs, and HMI/SCADA systems. Their facility runs exclusively on ABB robots with Rockwell Automation controls, so a background in industrial robot programming and troubleshooting is a big plus. Prior hands-on experience with ABB or Rockwell specifically isn't required — they're looking for someone technically sharp, coachable, and ready to learn their systems.
What You Will Do:
- Robot & System Troubleshooting: Diagnose and repair electrical, mechanical, and programming faults in robotic cells and automated equipment to minimize downtime.
- PLC, HMI & Robot Programming: Write, edit, and troubleshoot ladder logic or structured text for PLCs, HMIs, servo/drive controllers, and robot programs.
- Maintenance & Calibration: Perform preventive maintenance and calibrate industrial sensors, instruments, and actuators.
- Schematic Interpretation: Read, interpret, and redline electrical, pneumatic, and P&ID schematics or blueprints.
- Documentation: Log maintenance activity, write SOPs, and maintain network/software configurations.
What You Need to Succeed:
- Programming Background: Demonstrated experience programming and troubleshooting industrial robots (any brand) and/or PLCs — willingness and ability to learn ABB and Rockwell platforms specifically.
- Technical Knowledge: Solid understanding of electrical power systems, industrial networks (EtherNet/IP, Modbus), and control hardware.
- Software Familiarity: Experience with a major automation platform (Allen-Bradley/Rockwell, Siemens, ABB, or Ignition SCADA) preferred.
- Safety Adherence: Working knowledge of industrial safety standards, including NFPA 70E and Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures.
