Job Summary
Morris Technology Solutions (MTS) is seeking an experienced Avaya Aura VoIP Engineer contractor to support, maintain, and enhance an enterprise phone system within a healthcare environment. This role focuses on migrating small clinic phone systems into an Avaya Aura enterprise platform, as well as supporting VoIP infrastructure, call routing, and voice-related network configurations across the organization.
The Avaya Aura VoIP Engineer will be responsible for installing, configuring, and supporting telephony systems for clinical and administrative users. This includes troubleshooting call quality issues, managing SIP and call routing configurations, supporting endpoint devices, and ensuring proper integration with network and carrier services. The ideal candidate is a hands-on voice professional with strong troubleshooting skills who can work independently and communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
- Install, configure, support, and maintain Avaya Aura components while working with smaller clinics to transition independent systems into the enterprise platform
- Troubleshoot VoIP call quality issues, including latency, jitter, packet loss, and one-way audio
- Configure and support SIP trunks, codecs, dial plans, hunt groups, and call routing
- Work closely with network teams to ensure proper VLAN, QoS, and routing configurations
- Perform adds, moves, and changes (MACs) for phones, extensions, voicemail, and call routing
- Support endpoint devices including desk phones, softphones, and conference phones
- Assist with phone system upgrades, firmware updates, and vendor coordination
- Provide documentation for configurations, troubleshooting steps, and system changes
- Support integrations with voicemail, paging, conferencing, and carrier services
Required Qualifications
- Hands-on experience with Avaya Aura phone systems
- Strong understanding of VoIP technologies, including SIP, RTP, call management concepts, and voicemail or auto-attendant call flows
- Solid networking knowledge, including VLANs, IP addressing, subnetting, DNS, DHCP, and basic routing and switching concepts
- Experience troubleshooting network-related voice issues
- Familiarity with firewall and NAT considerations for VoIP
- Ability to read packet captures and logs using tools such as Wireshark
- Strong communication skills and ability to work with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, project-based environment
Preferred Skills and Experience
- Experience supporting small business phone systems or mixed SMB and enterprise environments
- Exposure to other PBX platforms such as Vodavi, Mitel, NEC, FreePBX, or 3CX
- Experience working with carriers and SIP providers
- Knowledge of QoS configuration on network switches
- Basic scripting or automation experience
- Prior experience working in a healthcare, financial, or multi-site environment
