Senior Trust Officer
  • Base Salary: $130,000 – $155,000
  • Annual Bonus: 12% Target (Previous year bonuses averaged 148% of target)

Position Overview

Our client is seeking an experienced Senior Trust Officer to oversee the administration of complex trust relationships with a particular emphasis on Special Needs Trusts. This is a high-touch fiduciary role requiring a professional who combines deep technical trust administration expertise with exceptional relationship management skills.

The Senior Trust Officer will serve as the primary point of contact for beneficiaries, family members, caregivers, attorneys, and financial advisors while ensuring trusts are administered in accordance with governing documents, fiduciary standards, and applicable regulations. The ideal candidate understands both the technical complexities of trust administration and the importance of providing compassionate guidance to families navigating sensitive financial and life situations.

Key ResponsibilitiesTrust Administration
  • Serve as the primary relationship manager for a portfolio of Special Needs Trusts and complex fiduciary accounts.
  • Administer trusts in accordance with governing documents, fiduciary standards, and applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Interpret trust documents and ensure accurate execution of fiduciary responsibilities.
  • Oversee trust account openings, maintenance, distributions, annual reviews, fee processing, and account closings.
  • Ensure proper trust accounting, reconciliations, and recordkeeping.
Client Relationship Management
  • Build and maintain long-term relationships with beneficiaries, family members, caregivers, attorneys, financial advisors, and other professional partners.
  • Guide families through trust distribution decisions while balancing fiduciary obligations and client needs.
  • Anticipate client needs and proactively identify potential risks and planning opportunities.
  • Deliver a high-touch client experience built on trust, professionalism, and responsiveness.
Special Needs Trust Administration
  • Provide guidance regarding Special Needs Trust administration.
  • Apply working knowledge of public benefit programs, including SSI and Medicaid, when evaluating trust distributions.
  • Help preserve beneficiary eligibility while administering trust assets in accordance with governing documents.
  • Support the continued growth and development of the firm's Special Needs Trust practice.
Fiduciary & Regulatory Compliance
  • Ensure compliance with fiduciary principles, trust regulations, and firm policies.
  • Coordinate audits, reconciliations, and responses to regulatory inquiries.
  • Support estate settlement and probate administration activities.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and trust records.
Collaboration
  • Partner closely with investment, operations, legal, and administrative teams to deliver seamless trust administration.
  • Coordinate with estate planning attorneys, CPAs, financial advisors, and other outside professionals.
  • Contribute to process improvements and best practices across the trust administration team.
QualificationsRequired
  • 7 years of trust administration experience.
  • Strong experience administering trust accounts from account opening through account closing.
  • Experience with estate and trust settlement processes.
  • Strong understanding of fiduciary principles and trust operations.
  • Experience interpreting trust documents and administering trusts accordingly.
  • Experience with annual account reviews, fee processing, trust distributions, and ongoing account maintenance.
  • Experience handling audits, reconciliations, and regulatory inquiries.
  • Familiarity with probate administration and estate workflows.
  • Working knowledge of estate-related tax considerations.
  • Proficiency with trust accounting and trust administration systems.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent professional experience.
Preferred
  • Significant experience administering Special Needs Trusts.
  • CTFA (Certified Trust and Fiduciary Advisor) designation.
  • JD or CFP® designation.
  • Strong understanding of SSI, Medicaid, and public benefit eligibility requirements.
  • Experience collaborating with attorneys, financial advisors, and other fiduciary professionals.
