A well-established electrical construction organization is seeking a Purchasing Manager to lead procurement and supply chain operations across utility, industrial, and infrastructure projects.
This role is critical in ensuring the timely, cost-effective, and high-quality procurement of materials, equipment, and subcontracted services to support project execution. The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced, project-driven environment and brings strong experience in construction procurement and vendor management.
Position OverviewThe Purchasing Manager will oversee all procurement activities, working closely with project management, estimating, and field teams to ensure materials are sourced, delivered, and managed efficiently. This individual will play a key role in cost control, vendor negotiations, and supply chain strategy.
Key ResponsibilitiesProcurement & Sourcing- Develop and execute procurement strategies aligned with project timelines
- Source electrical materials (switchgear, conduit, transformers, wire/cable, substation components) and subcontracted services
- Analyze project drawings and specifications to determine material requirements
- Ensure timely delivery of materials to job sites
- Build and maintain strong relationships with suppliers and subcontractors
- Negotiate pricing, contracts, and terms to optimize cost and performance
- Evaluate vendor performance based on quality, delivery, and reliability
- Maintain and expand vendor database
- Align purchasing strategies with project budgets and estimating teams
- Identify cost-saving opportunities and implement value engineering initiatives
- Monitor market trends and supply chain risks
- Oversee inventory levels and coordinate warehouse operations (if applicable)
- Track material usage and reduce waste
- Coordinate transportation and delivery logistics to job sites
- Ensure procurement activities meet company policies and regulatory requirements
- Maintain accurate purchase orders, contracts, and supplier records
- Support audits and reporting requirements
- Partner with Project Managers, Estimators, and Field Teams
- Support bid efforts with vendor pricing and lead times
- Participate in project planning meetings to forecast procurement needs
- Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Construction Management, Business, or related field (preferred)
- 5–10 years of procurement experience in construction, electrical contracting, or infrastructure
- Strong knowledge of electrical materials and construction processes
- Proven experience negotiating contracts and managing vendors
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and ERP/procurement systems
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications
- Strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment
- Utility, substation, or transmission & distribution projects
- Experience in union environments
- Familiarity with Northeast supplier network

- Base Salary Range: $95,000 – $135,000 (flexible based on experience)
