Controller
Concord, CA | $120,000 base
Schedule: Full-Time | Onsite (Hybrid possible after 90 days, not guaranteed)
A rapidly growing fuel and energy services organization is hiring a Controller to join its leadership team. This role was previously handled by the CFO, and due to expansion, they are now bringing in a dedicated Controller to own accounting operations, strengthen controls, and support strategic financial planning. This team is outgoing, collaborative, and culture-forward — they want someone local who thrives in a fast-moving environment.
What You’ll Be DoingLead and mentor a 20-person accounting team, driving accountability, development, and performance
Oversee all core accounting functions: billing, AP/AR, GL, reconciliations, financial reporting
Prepare monthly, quarterly & annual financial statements for leadership
Build annual forecasts, financial projections, and strategic analysis
Implement process improvements and evaluate new accounting systems
Maintain strong internal controls & ensure GAAP compliance
Coordinate external audits (financial, 401k)
Serve as liaison with banks (loans, credit facilities, financial reviews)
Oversee company credit card program and expense reimbursement processes
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
CPA or CMA is mandatory
5 years as a Controller or senior accounting leader
Strong GAAP, internal controls, and financial reporting experience
Experience leading accounting teams in Fuel, Energy, Transportation, Construction, or Oil & Gas (required)
Highly detail-oriented with strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Local candidate — must be able to work onsite
