Minuteman High School is seeking a qualified Long-Term Substitute Chapter 74 Cosmetology Teacher for the remainder of the 2025/2026 school year. Candidates for this position will be expected to implement instruction with a strong focus on Massachusetts Vocational Technical Curriculum Frameworks. Successful candidates will have previous experience working in a salon setting. The candidate will be responsible for teaching topics such as hair care, nail care, skin care, health and disease prevention, chemistry, anatomy, manicures, color theory, chemical texture services and haircuts.Major Responsibilities:
- Implement cosmetology lessons and Project-Based Learning activities from curriculum specifically designed to coincide with the Massachusetts Vocational Technical Curriculum Frameworks for Cosmetology.
- Support the earning and offering of Industry Recognized Credentials (IRC) in the program.
- Manage classroom affairs, adjust to various audiences and learning preferences, and promote a growth mindset.
- Apply relevant technologies to enhance teaching and learning.
- Attend staff, team, and IEP meetings and contribute to committees as required.
- Actively work with Program Advisory Board, local business and industries, and other industry experts for continuous program improvement.
- Assess the accomplishment of students on a regular basis and provide progress reports as required.
- Maintain all records necessary for reporting student grades, hours, performance, and the documentation of students using Minutemans competency tracking system.
- Counsel with colleagues, students, and parents on a regular basis.
- Assist the administration in implementing District goals and policies related to the educational and operational needs of the District.
- Maintain adequate working conditions of all equipment in the classroom/shop facilities.
- Function as a member and work collaboratively with Minuteman educators and staff in order to integrate challenging technical concepts into a dynamic curriculum.
- Maintain a professional demeanor.
- Perform any other related task or duty at the direction of the building Principal or their designee.
- Licensed or the ability to become licensed as a Chapter 74 Instructor by the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education in Cosmetology.
- Five years full-time employment experience directly related to Cosmetology required.
- Cosmetology license required.
- Knowledge of the Massachusetts Vocational Technical Curriculum Frameworks for Cosmetology preferred.
- Prior teaching or substitute teaching experience preferred.
- Previous experience with Salon Software preferred.
- Ability to work as part of a team to foster a positive working relationship with students and staff.
- Strong classroom management and communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively with diverse student populations.
- This position includes but is not limited to: walking around the school, observing students while they work in their program areas, standing for periods, occasionally lifting and carrying items up to 50 pounds, reading documents, using a computer, listening and speaking, using office equipment, maintaining energy throughout the day, and handling stress effectively.
