What are the responsibilities and job description for the Director of Operations position at Minuteman High School?
Reporting to the Superintendent-Director, the Director of Operations will oversee operations and maintenance of the Minuteman Regional Vocational Technical School District. The Director of Operations will have oversite of facility rentals, buildings and grounds, maintenance, and associated budgets.Major Responsibilities:
- Prepares bid specifications for chief procurement officer for supplies, transportation, food services, contracted maintenance, and any other goods or services procurements, prepares purchase orders; negotiates contracts; oversees and inspects purchases, construction, and repairs; attends on-site meetings; oversees project and purchasing accounting functions; following all Massachusetts General Laws with regards to procurement.
- Directs, supervises, and evaluates Facilities staff; ensures staff receives training related to specific job tasks and responsibilities.
- Supervisory oversight of maintenance and custodial operations. Works closely with the Facilities Coordinator to plan and schedule all maintenance and custodial personnel tasks (to include, but not limited to, inspections, preventive maintenance, repairs, and routine servicing of all building systems; repairs and inspections of building infrastructure including walls, ceilings, doors, windows, hardware, and roofs; cleaning and care of floors, walls, bathrooms, classrooms, etc.; care of athletic fields and grounds; care of trees, lawns, and shrubbery; snow and ice removal; etc.).
- Works closely with the Director of Technology and Data Systems to address infrastructure needs related to secure communication systems, information databases, and the foundation for a wide range of individualized technology needs.
- Coordinate and administrate a facilities maintenance program for the facilities.
- Prepares specifications for any subcontracts and monitors service agreements.
- Develops and monitors department budget; orders equipment and supplies and monitors inventory; makes requests for capital outlay expenditures as needed.
- Develops, implements, and supervises preventative maintenance and renovation programs for buildings, grounds, mechanical and electrical, utility, and safety and security systems.
- Serve as the school department liaison with the local police, fire, public works, and any other appropriate town departments.
- Serves as the administrator responsible for facility safety and meeting physical ADA compliance standards, works closely with staff and officials to meet state and federal requirements.
- Ensures the proper disposal of hazardous and controlled wastes in compliance with regulations and guidelines; works directly with outside agencies such as OSHA, and local and state health departments as required.
- Evaluates the need for, and with Human Resources, arranges physical plant training sessions (bloodborne pathogens, OSHA, MSDS, and other job-related training) both in-house and off campus.
- Contributes to strategic planning by evaluating and projecting future facility needs and proposing options to achieve them.
- Work with Superintendent-Director to develop lease agreements with member towns, member school districts, and outside organizations, as appropriate.
- Facilitate the school facilities rental program.
- Actively recruit new renters and lessees.
- Monitor and provide input on the facilities rental guidelines manual as well as all applicable district policies.
- Works with Business Manager to oversee revolving accounts and budgets associates with facilities rental, including invoices and accounts receivable.
- Assist High School Administration with student transportation and operations.
- Serve as school department liaison with the outside contractor to supervise and monitor the school lunch program.
- Support school and district security in conjunction with Director of Technology and Data Systems, the Department of Facilities, the Police Department, and the Fire Department on security and emergency management.
- Any additional duties as directed by the Superintendent-Director.
- Previous experience working in a public school district or educational setting.
- Demonstrated leadership experience in facilities, operations, or a related field.
- Familiarity with public procurement and applicable Massachusetts laws and regulations.
- Experience managing budgets, capital projects, or complex operational systems.
- Knowledge of regulatory compliance related to facilities, safety, and environmental standards.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills with internal and external stakeholders.
- Possession of, or ability to obtain, a Massachusetts Construction Supervisor License (CSL).
- This position includes but is not limited to: walking around the school, observing students while they work in their program areas, standing for periods, occasionally lifting and carrying items up to 50 pounds, reading documents, using a computer, listening and speaking, using office equipment, maintaining energy throughout the day, and handling stress effectively.
- Full-Time, 12 month position.
- Work schedule includes occasional evenings and weekends based on operational needs.

- Salary range $100,000 - $135,000 prorated to date of hire.
