Position SummaryThe HR Generalist will provide comprehensive support across various HR functions including recruitment, employee relations, benefits administration, payroll coordination, compliance, and union-related matters. This role works closely with leadership, employees, and union representatives to ensure a positive and compliant work environment while supporting organizational goals.Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Coordinate the full recruitment process, including job postings, applicant screening, interview scheduling, and assisting hiring managers in selecting qualified candidates. Support a smooth onboarding experience for new hires.
- Maintain proactive communication with union representatives to ensure HR policies comply with Collective Bargaining Agreements (CBA). Assist in grievance handling and support union contract negotiations as needed.
- Serve as a resource for employees seeking guidance on workplace matters. Mediate conflicts, encourage respectful communication, and conduct investigations related to policy violations, misconduct, or disciplinary issues.
- Assist the benefits team with health insurance, retirement plans, wellness initiatives, and employee enrollment. Address employee inquiries and liaise with benefits providers.
- Ensure compliance with labor laws, internal policies, and regulatory requirements. Maintain accurate and confidential employee records and support internal audits.
- Coordinate employee training and development programs, including workshop organization, participation tracking, and evaluating program effectiveness. Support performance management processes such as goal-setting and development planning.
- Support payroll activities by conducting accuracy checks, resolving payroll or timecard issues with supervisors and the Grain Craft Payroll Department, and ensuring timely processing.
- Maintain accurate employee information within HRIS platforms and generate HR reports for metrics such as turnover, headcount, payroll, and demographics.
- Assist leadership in developing strategies to address workforce gaps or surpluses and support talent optimization efforts.
- Implement and communicate HR policies. Assist with drafting and updating employee handbooks and provide guidance on policy interpretation.
- Prepare HR reports and assist with special projects as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Must be able to work on-site according to the established work schedule.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field; or equivalent experience.
- Minimum of 4 years of HR Generalist experience.
- Experience supporting union environments preferred.
- Experience with HRIS systems, preferably ADP.
- HR Certification (PHR, SHRM-CP, or equivalent) preferred, or willingness to obtain certification within two years.
- Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local employment laws (e.g., FLSA, ADA, FMLA, OSHA).
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
- Excellent written and verbal communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion.
- Strong relationship-building skills and ability to influence HR best practices.
- Highly organized with a proactive, problem-solving mindset.
- Ability to travel to the Red Oak, IA Grain Craft location at least 1–2 times per month, or more based on operational needs.
Pay: $55,000.00 - $70,000.00 per year
