What are the responsibilities and job description for the Controls Sales Engineer position at Miller Resource Group?
Job Title: Building Automation Sales Engineer
Location: Fargo, ND (Eastern North Dakota Market)
Company Type: Independent Systems Integrator (Backed by a Global Manufacturer)
The Mission We are looking for a growth-minded "hunter" to build our territory in Fargo and Grand Forks. While our organization holds a dominant market share in other regions of the state, Fargo represents a significant growth opportunity. This isn’t just a sales role; it’s an opportunity to "own" a market with the backing of a global industry leader but the agility and culture of a local, "Golden Rule" driven branch.
Key Responsibilities * Business Development: Proactively identify and close new building automation projects and service opportunities. You will be expected to utilize warm/cold calling and drive educational events to build a consistent pipeline.
Technical "Back-of-House" Work: Read and interpret architectural, mechanical, and electrical drawings. You must be capable of performing your own technical takeoffs (identifying parts/labor) and writing detailed project scopes.
Consultative Selling: Build and maintain deep relationships with building owners, general contractors, and MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing) design firms.
System Design: Differentiate our offerings through a value-driven approach, representing a world-class, open-protocol automation platform.
Lifecycle Management: Manage the proposal process from the initial site walk through to the final closing, ensuring a smooth handoff to the operations team.
Minimum Requirements (The Non-Negotiables) * Technical Literacy: Proven ability to perform technical takeoffs and read complex blueprints independently.
Industry Knowledge: Minimum 5 years of HVAC experience or 2 years of Building Automation Systems (BAS) sales experience.
The "Hunter" Mentality: A high sense of urgency and the ability to work independently to "hit the bricks" and find new business.
Local Market Relevance: A strong preference for a North Dakota native or someone deeply established in the Fargo market who understands how local business trust is built.
Professionalism: Exceptional social skills, a "front-facing" demeanor, and a commitment to meticulous professional follow-up.
Culture & Benefits * Anti-Corporate Environment: We avoid the "Wall Street" reporting grind. We trust our experts to run their business with integrity and quality.
Compensation: $70,000 Base Salary (negotiable based on experience) Uncapped 10% Commission on Gross Margin. Estimated $100K OTE for the first year.
Healthcare: 100% company-paid premiums for "Employee Only" plans, effective Day 1.
Retirement: 401(k) with a total match potential of 6% (including a 2% non-elective contribution) starting after 90 days.
Perks: Company fleet vehicle (or allowance), gas card, laptop, and $25K Life/AD&D policy.
Salary : $70,000 - $100,000
