Sales Engineer – Building Automation & Mechanical Controls
Overview
We are seeking a highly driven Sales Engineer to help expand a growing controls and mechanical systems business focused on complex commercial and industrial environments. This role is ideal for someone who combines technical aptitude with a strong business development mindset and thrives in entrepreneurial, fast-paced environments.
The Sales Engineer will be responsible for identifying opportunities, building customer relationships, developing technical solutions, and driving project growth across building automation, HVAC controls, and specialized mechanical infrastructure applications.
This is not a traditional sales role. The ideal candidate is a self-starter who enjoys building business from the ground up, solving technical problems, and operating with a high degree of autonomy.
Key Responsibilities
Prospect and develop new business opportunities within commercial, industrial, pharmaceutical, laboratory, and mission-critical facilities
Build relationships with contractors, consulting engineers, facility owners, and end users
Identify customer needs and develop technical controls solutions
Support project development activities including estimating, scope review, and proposal preparation
Coordinate with project managers, engineers, and technical teams throughout the sales cycle
Learn and develop expertise in mechanical systems, airflow management, pressurization systems, water systems, and building automation technologies
Stay engaged with active projects to ensure customer satisfaction and identify future opportunities
Maintain strong market awareness and competitive knowledge
Operate independently while managing multiple opportunities and priorities
Qualifications
Preferred Background
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related technical field
Experience in technical sales engineering, controls, HVAC, or building automation
Familiarity with DDC, PLCs, or industrial controls systems
Experience supporting commercial or industrial mechanical systems
Strong understanding of engineering concepts and technical problem solving
