The Director of Pricing & LPM is a strategic leadership role responsible for designing and executing firm-wide pricing strategies, driving profitability, and enhancing client value through effective matter and project management. This role integrates pricing innovation, financial modeling, legal project management, and practice innovation to support attorneys and firm leadership in delivering efficient, client-focused legal services.
Working in close collaboration with firm leadership and stakeholders across Marketing & Business Development, Finance, and Practice Group Management, the Director leads initiatives that improve competitiveness, operational efficiency, and client service delivery. The role is instrumental in shaping how the firm scopes, prices, manages, and evaluates legal work to align with both business goals and client expectations.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Strategic Pricing & Profitability
- Develop and lead firm-wide pricing strategies, including alternative fee arrangements (AFAs), tiered pricing models, and blended rates.
- Analyze profitability across practice groups and client portfolios; lead client-specific annual rate-setting and margin optimization.
- Collaborate with Finance and Practice Group Leaders to align pricing with strategic goals and client value.
Matter & Project Management
- Implement legal project management (LPM) frameworks for scoping, budgeting, tracking, and reporting.
- Monitor matter performance, manage scope changes, and conduct after-action reviews to improve efficiency and reduce write-offs.
- Partner with attorneys and staff to ensure timely, cost-effective delivery of legal services.
Practice Innovation
- Champion innovation in legal service delivery, including new pricing models, process improvements, and technology adoption.
- Lead initiatives that enhance client engagement, responsiveness, and satisfaction.
- Stay abreast of industry trends and contribute thought leadership through conferences, webinars, and professional networks.
Collaboration & Enablement
- Work closely with Business Development, Finance, and Practice Management teams to support strategic client engagements and RFPs.
- Train and coach attorneys on pricing strategies, profitability metrics, and LPM tools.
- Serve as a resource for partners in developing client-specific pricing and matter plans.
Data & Technology
- Maintain centralized repositories of pricing agreements, client budgets, and profitability dashboards.
- Leverage data analytics to inform pricing decisions and identify trends in client behavior and market benchmarks.
- Evaluate and implement technology solutions to support pricing and matter management workflows.
Leadership & Team Management
- Build and lead a cross-functional team to support pricing, matter management, and profitability.
- Define team goals aligned with firm strategy and client service excellence.
- Foster a culture of innovation, accountability, and continuous improvement.
Job Requirements:
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES
- 10 years of demonstrative experience with business acumen, interpersonal skills, and technical expertise in a pricing, operations, finance, analytics, or corporate strategy-based role, preferably in a law firm or other professional services environment.
- Bachelor's degree in management, finance, economics, engineering, or other comparable business or applied sciences discipline.
- Proven leadership in developing and executing pricing strategies and managing cross-functional teams.
- Strong analytical skills and proficiency in financial modeling tools.
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and stakeholder management abilities.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, data-driven, and client-focused environment.
- Valid authorization to work in the U.S.

The annual compensation range for this position is between $200,000 and $250,000.
