The Job
The Director of Facilities is responsible for overseeing all aspects of facility operations to ensure the property is maintained at the highest standards of safety, efficiency, and quality. This role ensures that all activities within the reporting departments are carried out in alignment with company objectives, budget guidelines, mission, and core service standards. The Director provides strategic direction and operational leadership across maintenance, engineering, and facility services to support a seamless guest and team member experience. In addition, this leader drives preventive maintenance programs, sustainability initiatives, and capital projects, while fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
The Day-to-day
- The Director of Facilities leads the development, monitoring, and execution of department budgets, operations, and strategies to drive both short- and long-term profitability.
- They oversee all technical trade teams—including engineers, electricians, carpenters, painters, laborers, maintenance, landscaping, drivers, and facilities safety operators—ensuring adherence to guest service standards and brand expectations. He develops, implements, and maintains standard operating procedures focused on operational efficiency, safety, and regulatory compliance.
- The Director reviews staffing plans, recruits, trains, supervises, and evaluates facility personnel and service providers.
- They manage purchasing and inventory control for tools, equipment, and consumables, ensures compliance with all local, state, and federal codes and safety standards, and provides technical guidance and management support to resolve maintenance, facility, and landscaping issues effectively.
- The ideal candidate will have prior Director-level experience with at least 4 years in facilities management, preferably within hotel or casino operations; experience in convention centers, power plants, or large-scale hotels is strongly preferred.
- The candidate will possess a strong technical background, with oversight of engineering, electrical, HVAC, plumbing, upholstery, painting, welding, locksmith, and horticulture functions, and a solid understanding of full-scale hotel facilities management, including guest rooms and plumbing systems.
- Project management skills are essential, with the ability to oversee outsourced projects while maintaining critical oversight.
- Proficiency in Word, Excel, and basic budgeting and purchasing calculations.
- The candidate will have demonstrated leadership and management experience, able to coach and motivate a team of 60–70 employees, including 4–5 managers, ensuring operational excellence and team success.
