OVERVIEW:
The Mercer County Correction Center is seeking a highly qualified and motivated individual to serve as County Correctional Deputy Police Warden. This leadership role supports the Warden in the administration, operation, and maintenance of the correctional facility and plays a critical role in ensuring the safety, custody, and discipline of inmates, as well as the welfare of staff and the public.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist the Warden in overseeing daily facility operations, staff supervision, and enforcement of facility policies and procedures
- Supervise and direct correctional officers in the incarceration, custody, rehabilitation, housing, feeding, and discipline of inmates
- Ensure compliance with all state and federal regulations, and maintain facility standards of safety and security
- Participate in emergency response planning and critical incident management
- Support inmate programming, rehabilitation efforts, and facility initiatives
- Perform administrative and operational duties as required or delegated by the Warden
- Maintain accurate records and reports regarding facility operations, incidents, and personnel matters
- Uphold professional standards of conduct and represent the Department of Corrections with integrity
REQUIREMENTS:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- At least four (4) years of supervisory experience in the management of a county correctional facility, including experience in the incarceration, custody, rehabilitation, protection, housing, feeding, work, and discipline of inmates
- Must be a minimum of 18 years of age
- Must be a citizen of the United States
- Successful completion of a Police Training Commission-approved police training course in the State of New Jersey
- Training must include satisfactory proficiency in the use of firearms
- Appointees must qualify or requalify in firearms use per New Jersey regulatory requirements
- Candidates in SWAT-SERT-related assignments must meet additional qualification standards
- Must pass a thorough medical and psychological examination administered by the appointing authority
- Strong leadership, communication, and decision-making skills
- Ability to work collaboratively in a high-pressure, structured environment
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience in crisis management, emergency response, and special operations
- Knowledge of Title 40, Title 4A, and other applicable New Jersey statutes and administrative codes governing county operations, civil service, and law enforcement procedures
- Familiarity with New Jersey correctional standards, laws, and procedures
- Demonstrated ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and manage facility operations
