What are the responsibilities and job description for the Temporary Entry-Level Officer (TELO) position at Mercer County?
OVERVIEW:
The Mercer County Correction Center is seeking dedicated individuals to join our custody staff as Temporary Entry-Level Officers (TELOs). This full-time position plays a vital role in maintaining public safety and security by providing direct supervision of the inmate population.
WORKING HOURS:
This is a full-time position requiring shift work in a 24-hour facility. Overtime is mandatory.
SALARY:
$37,600 (Candidates will remain at hiring salary until the successful completion of the New Jersey Training Commission (NJPTC) authorized Basic Course for County Correctional Police Officers and regular appointment is approved).
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide public safety and security through the custody and management of those individuals incarcerated within the Mercer County Correction Center.
- Ensure the safety and welfare of the staff and inmate population.
- Assist in the rehabilitative efforts for those incarcerated individuals returning to the community.
- Promote public support for the operation and objectives of the Mercer County Correction Center.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be a U.S. citizen and at least 18 years of age.
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
- License: Valid New Jersey driver's license.
- Experience: Prior correctional experience is preferred but not required.
TRAINING & ADVANCEMENT:
- Successful completion of a police training course approved by the New Jersey Police Training Commission (NJPTC) is a condition of employment.
- Candidates hired as Temporary Entry-Level Officers (TELOs) will transition to permanent status upon completion of the NJPTC Basic Course for County Correctional Police Officers. Training includes firearms proficiency and other law enforcement skills required for correctional officers.
