Medix is hiring a Mobile Phlebotomist (Float) to support a network of clinical sites throughout the St. Louis, MO region. The phlebotomist will travel to multiple locations to provide coverage, perform specimen collection, and ensure high-quality patient care and accurate laboratory processing.
This position requires flexibility, strong technical skills, and the ability to work independently while maintaining professionalism across diverse clinical settings.
Key Responsibilities
Regional Coverage & Specimen Collection
- Travel to various clinical sites within the St. Louis area (typically within a 2-hour radius) to provide coverage as needed
- Perform venipuncture and non-blood specimen collection (urine, fecal, etc.) accurately and efficiently
- Maintain a calm, professional environment to ensure a positive patient experience
- Follow all safety protocols for handling and disposing of biohazard materials and sharps
Specimen Processing & Documentation
- Accurately enter patient demographics, insurance, and billing information into the Laboratory Information System (LIS)
- Verify test orders and clarify discrepancies with clinical staff as needed
- Prepare specimens for transport, including centrifuging, aliquoting, labeling, and maintaining proper storage conditions
- Research test requirements to ensure specimen integrity and compliance
Administrative & Operational Support
- Maintain daily logs, patient records, and assist with reporting metrics
- Perform clerical duties such as filing, faxing, and data entry
- Manage time effectively while adapting to changing patient volumes and site needs
- Support inventory management by tracking supplies and reporting shortages
Compliance & Professional Standards
- Adhere to all PPE and laboratory safety protocols
- Maintain strict confidentiality of patient information in accordance with HIPAA
- Present a professional appearance and uphold company standards at all times
Schedule
- Monday – Friday
- 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM
Compensation
- $21.00 – $24.00 per hour
- Mileage reimbursement provided for travel
Qualifications
Required
- High School Diploma or GED
- 1–3 years of phlebotomy experience
- Valid Driver’s License and reliable transportation
- Active auto insurance
- Ability to travel regionally within the St. Louis territory with short notice
Preferred
- Phlebotomy Certification
- Medical Assistant or Paramedic background
- Experience working in multiple clinical settings
