Position Overview
Mecca Talent is seeking an experienced Schutte Machine Operator II to join a growing precision manufacturing team. This position is responsible for independently operating Schutte multi-spindle machines while maintaining production efficiency, product quality, and a safe work environment.
The ideal candidate has previous machining experience, can perform routine machine adjustments, inspect finished parts, and assist with machine changeovers. This role offers excellent opportunities for advancement into a Setup Technician position.
Key Responsibilities
Machine Operation
- Independently operate one or more Schutte multi-spindle machines to meet production schedules.
- Monitor machine performance and identify abnormal operating conditions.
- Load bar stock and verify materials against production documentation.
- Perform authorized in-process machine adjustments, including tool offsets and coolant adjustments.
- Complete machine start-up and shutdown procedures.
- Communicate production status, downtime, and equipment concerns to supervisors.
- Assist Setup Technicians during machine changeovers and tooling preparation.
Machine Maintenance & Housekeeping
- Maintain assigned equipment and work area throughout each shift.
- Monitor coolant levels and lubrication systems.
- Report equipment issues, abnormal wear, or mechanical concerns.
- Perform chip removal and maintain 6S workplace standards.
- Properly handle raw materials, finished parts, and scrap to prevent contamination or damage.
Quality Assurance
- Perform in-process inspections using micrometers, calipers, gauges, and other precision measuring equipment.
- Read and interpret blueprints to verify dimensions and specifications.
- Identify and segregate nonconforming parts while completing required documentation.
- Support first-piece inspections and quality verification activities.
- Accurately record production counts, scrap, and downtime.
Safety & Compliance
- Follow all company safety policies, PPE requirements, and lockout/tagout procedures.
- Report unsafe conditions, near misses, and workplace incidents immediately.
- Participate in safety meetings and ongoing training.
- Promote a strong safety culture by leading through example.
Continuous Improvement
- Support Lean Manufacturing and 6S initiatives.
- Participate in continuous improvement and Kaizen activities.
- Assist with training and mentoring less experienced machine operators.
- Recommend improvements that enhance safety, quality, productivity, and efficiency.
- Continue developing technical skills for advancement into a Setup Technician role.
QualificationsRequired
- 1β2 years of experience in a machining or manufacturing environment.
- Experience operating production machinery independently.
- Ability to use precision measuring instruments including micrometers, calipers, and gauges.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and engineering drawings.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing quality parts.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- Dependable work ethic with the ability to work independently.
- Flexibility to work overtime as production demands require.
- Strong commitment to workplace safety.
Preferred
- Experience operating Schutte, ACME, or other multi-spindle screw machines.
- Familiarity with cam-driven machining equipment.
- Experience assisting with machine setups and changeovers.
- Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, 5S/6S, or continuous improvement practices.
- Experience using ERP or MRP production systems.
- Technical or vocational education in machining or manufacturing technology.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand for extended periods on a manufacturing floor.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds with or without assistance.
- Ability to work in an industrial environment with exposure to noise, coolant, oils, and metal chips.
- Ability to perform repetitive lifting, bending, reaching, and inspection tasks.
