What are the responsibilities and job description for the Accounting Specialist position at MDK?
MDK, an innovative law firm, is seeking a detail-oriented and organized Accounting Specialist to support the daily operations of the Accounting team. This role will focus on processing payments, reviewing transactions, and maintaining accurate financial records while also working closely with internal departments and external partners to ensure timely processing, resolve discrepancies, and uphold the firm’s accounting standards.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Manage the cash application process by reviewing incoming payments and applying them accurately.
- Assist in processing vendor invoices and payments as needed.
- Identify and resolve discrepancies within the cash application process.
- Review and approve e-filing and service credit card charges for all states and legal pods.
- Process MPU court receipts and handle folder requests, including reviewing and issuing checks based on pod requests.
- Process court-cost bills, manage the check queue, and monitor the Case Checks box.
- Issue client refunds and process payoff or reinstatement checks.
- Assist with e-filings and gather information on sales and tax payments.
- Support monthly bank reconciliations by researching transactions and preparing supporting documentation.
- Scan documents and attach files to cases in the internal case management system.
- Research receipts and payment activity using external client systems.
- Utilize multiple software platforms to void checks electronically.
- Complete filing and administrative tasks to support the Accounting department.
- Perform other related duties to meet team production goals and support a high level of customer service.
- Develop a thorough understanding of MDK culture and work to be a successful contributor and supporter of MDK’s mission and values, including MDK initiatives.
- Actively work to become familiar with the entire legal process for all work performed by the team

Qualifications:Requirements
- A bachelor’s degree is preferred; equivalent experience will be considered.
- Three or more years of work experience, preferably in an accounting or office setting.
- Basic math skills and confidence working with numbers.
- Ability to work a hybrid work schedule with four days in the office.
- Excellent attention to detail with the ability to research, analyze, and resolve issues.
- Collaborative and team-oriented work style.
- Demonstrated customer services skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and comfort with computer-based work.
- Ability to navigate and multi-task through multiple software systems.
- Clear and effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and follow established procedures.
- Proven ability to manage time, meet deadlines, and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.
