Custodian

Starting pay range: $18.3028 - $20.0697 per hour

Position Status: Full-Time

Work Schedule: Monday – Friday; 4:00 pm – 12:30 am

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Sweeps mops scrubs strips and waxes floors.
• Dusts and cleans county offices and public areas; vacuums and shampoos carpets as needed; polishes furniture and washes windows; empties waste receptacles and replaces liners.
• Cleans sanitizes deodorizes and disinfects restrooms showers morgue resident rooms and examination rooms; empties trash receptacles and replaces liners; replenishes supplies in dispensers.
• Assists in moving office and building furniture and equipment; prepares rooms for meetings assists at meetings upon request and approval by supervisor; ensures the security of the building or work area after normal work hours.
• Performs routine maintenance tasks in replacing light bulbs and unstopping lavatories.
• Performs limited ground maintenance tasks; patrols grounds and removes hazardous objects; picks up paper cans bottles and other debris and places in proper containers.
• Performs related work as required.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of materials methods and practices used in cleaning operations.

Required Qualifications

High school graduation or possession of a GED certificate; and some experience (0-1 year) operating vacuum and floor treatment equipment and tools used in the care and cleaning of buildings and facilities; or any equivalent combination of education and experience that would provide the above noted knowledge skills and abilities.

Following an initial job offer potential employees will be subject to a thorough background check and must pass a drug test.

Physical Attributes/Demands

Position requires the ability to routinely lift up to 50 lbs and includes bending stooping squatting reaching kneeling and standing for long periods of time. The use of standard cleaning chemicals and equipment will be performed during each shift.

Work Environment

The work is performed primarily indoors in an assigned area of a county building or facility. Occasionally the work is performed outdoors on grounds surrounding assigned work area and exposes employee to inclement weather. Work exposes employee to potential chemical hazards when using cleaning sanitizing and disinfecting chemicals; potential biological hazards such as blood body fluids and dirty needles when cleaning the morgue nursing or clinic areas; and potential physical hazards such as dust fumes. Work requires the use of safety clothing and equipment and compliance with safety rules and procedures.
