Overview
The Transportation Manager is responsible for planning, leading, and overseeing all transportation activities to ensure efficient, safe, and profitable service delivery in alignment with company policies and objectives.
The role focuses on optimizing fleet performance, maintaining DOT and safety compliance, and building a stable, well-trained driver workforce. This includes managing relationships with 3PL providers and owner-operators to expand capacity and ensure consistent, high-quality service. The Transportation Manager must be customer-focused, cost-conscious, and operationally skilled to exceed client expectations on every assignment.
Responsibilities
- Drive revenue growth through effective fleet, owner-operator, and 3PL resource planning.
- Develop and manage transportation budgets, forecasts, and expense controls.
- Supervise and evaluate drivers and owner-operators, ensuring compliance with company standards and DOT regulations.
- Build and manage strong partnerships with 3PL providers to ensure service quality, reliability, and cost efficiency.
- Lead driver and owner-operator recruiting, onboarding, retention, and engagement.
- Ensure proper handling and transportation of fitness equipment and household goods, where applicable.
- Record, track, and report transportation performance metrics; conduct annual reviews and identify improvement areas.
- Establish and enforce safety, compliance, and performance standards across all transportation partners.
- Oversee fleet operations including preventive maintenance, inspections, mileage tracking, permits, and records.
- Provide accurate routing, scheduling, and load-related information to drivers and external partners.
- Accurately manage load and driver data in company systems.
- Monitor accident and incident data; implement corrective actions to improve safety and compliance outcomes.
- Collaborate with sales and operations teams to align transportation capacity with customer requirements.
- Maintain awareness of customer needs and provide responsive, high-quality solutions.
- Execute responsibilities consistently with company policies and the Employee Handbook.
Education
- Bachelor’s degree preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
Experience
- 3–5 years of transportation management experience within logistics, trucking, or related industries.
- Direct experience managing 3PL providers and owner-operators, including contract oversight, performance management, and relationship building.
- Knowledge or prior experience with fitness equipment transportation and/or household goods moving is a plus.
- Strong knowledge of DOT/FMCSA regulations and compliance standards.
- Proven experience in dispatch, route planning, and driver supervision.
- Ability to balance in-house fleet operations with outsourced partner networks.
- Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and Google Workspace.
- Problem-solving and decision-making skills with a focus on cost efficiency and service quality.
Salary : $75,000 - $85,000
