Reporting to the Vice President of Student Engagement, the Director of Counseling and Psychological Services will be an accomplished professional committed to the University’s focus on student health and well-being in an educational environment that empowers leaders to pursue lives of purpose in a changing world.Located in Staunton, Virginia, Mary Baldwin recently grew from college to university status, reflecting its growing range of bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral programs. MBU is a diverse entrepreneurial institution with a record of innovation, aspiring to meet society’s evolving higher education needs. The Director of Counseling and Psychological Services will play an instrumental role in ensuring that MBU continues its development as a small university responsive to societal changes and the role of higher education within that society.The Director of Counseling and Psychological Services will support divisional efforts toward achieving the university’s strategic plan. They will bring deep knowledge of best practices in student counseling, creative and innovative thinking, and an appreciation for the opportunities present in a small, diverse university community.The successful candidate will have significant experience working with students and a particular interest in and commitment to working with faculty, staff, and community partners to provide care for student mental health needs.Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Oversee the counseling center’s daily operations, including staffing, training, and supervision of staff and student assistants.
• Responsible for overseeing the Timelycare telehealth vendor, which provides additional counseling services to all students.
• Provide consultation and training with staff and faculty regarding student mental health concerns.
• Provide mental health workshops, information, and training to student organizations, student peer leaders, and Resident Advisors.
• Participate in new student orientation by providing information about various mental health topics and counseling services.
• Attend regular meetings with the Office of Student Engagement staff and Student CARE Team.
• Develop and update relevant counseling policies and procedures.
• Provide an annual report to the Vice President of Student Engagement summarizing various aspects of services rendered, student assessment, goals, and overall functioning of the counseling center.
• Manage Counseling Center budgets and follow all MBU policies and procedures.
  
  

Clinical Responsibilities

• Exhibit student-centeredness in the performance of all job responsibilities.
• Provide individual and group counseling utilizing evidence-based treatment.
• Be available for consultation with staff and faculty regarding student mental health issues and crisis intervention.
• Assess student risk of harm to self or others and facilitate further evaluation by local facilities and agencies.
• Refer students to local treatment providers for counseling, medication, and psychological testing.
• Serve in an on-call capacity for critical incident response.
• Develop and provide mental health programming focused on student needs and proactively addressing issues requiring increased support and awareness.
• Adhere to all HIPAA and specific professional ethical standards of confidentiality.
  
  

Qualifications

• Masters degree in social work or counseling. Virginia licensure and five years of clinical experience required. A doctoral degree and clinical experience with college students is preferred.
• Experience working with clients from diverse backgrounds and marginalized identities preferred. Salary is commensurate with academic degree and experience.
