Position Overview
The Sales & Category Analyst Analyst supports a top client by delivering reporting, analysis, and insight-driven recommendations that guide category and sales strategy. This role blends Category Development and Sales support responsibilities, translating data into clear “so what” insights that inform planning, selling stories, retailer conversations, and internal decision-making.

Position Overview
The Sales & Category Analyst Analyst supports a top client by delivering reporting, analysis, and insight-driven recommendations that guide category and sales strategy. This role blends Category Development and Sales support responsibilities, translating data into clear “so what” insights that inform planning, selling stories, retailer conversations, and internal decision-making.
Key Responsibilities
Reporting & Performance Tracking
- Manage weekly POS, inventory, and performance reporting, including item trackers, category rankers, and promotional results.
- Maintain monthly dashboards and recaps summarizing key drivers, trends, and recommended actions.
- Ensure accuracy, timeliness, and consistency across all reporting deliverables.
- Scorecard promotions and summarize insights for internal and client teams.
- Leverage syndicated and retailer data sources (NielsenIQ, Circana/IRI, direct POS, etc.) to identify trends, opportunity gaps, and shopper behaviors.
- Conduct competitive analysis and assess fair share, leakage, and share of wallet opportunities.
- Tailor national category stories to individual retailers using shopper insights and category dynamics.
- Support the development of category insights used in business reviews, line reviews, and sales materials.
- Partner with Account Managers to support selling stories, forecasting inputs, and 4Ps analysis from pricing to promotion to distribution opportunities.
- Provide clear summaries of performance drivers and business implications (“so what”).
- Support preparations for JBP and retailer discussions by supplying insights, trends, and category context.
- Respond to ad hoc data needs with accurate, concise, actionable output.
- Maintain standardized templates, tools, and trackers that improve reporting efficiency and insight clarity.
- Contribute to strengthening MPG’s insight frameworks, category storytelling, and analytic capabilities.
- Senior Analyst: Lead deeper analyses, elevate tools/templates, and serve as a go-to resource for analytic questions.
- Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- 2–7 years of experience in Sales Analytics, Category Management, Shopper Insights, or related CPG analytics.
- Experience with syndicated data systems (NielsenIQ, Circana/IRI) and direct retailer portals such as Circana POS platforms, Scintilla, 84.51, dunnhumby, Market6 strongly preferred.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex data and communicate it clearly.
- High attention to detail, accuracy, and a sense of urgency.
- Ability to prioritize multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong communication, collaboration, and organization skills.
- Senior Analyst candidates will additionally demonstrate:
- Ability to independently lead analyses and develop deeper “so what” insights and recommended actions.
- Stronger storytelling development and comfort supporting retailer-facing materials or discussions.
