What are the responsibilities and job description for the University Pool Lifeguard - MIU position at Maharishi International University?
This is a seasonal position. Part - time or Full- time. Tentative start date is May 2026.
Job Summary:
Monitor pool activities and enforce safety protocols to prevent accidents creating a safe and enjoyable atmosphere and adhering to the guidelines learned in lifeguard training and being assertive and courteous when enforcing pool rules, regulations and policy.
Job Responsibilities:
- Perform rescues, administer first aid, and perform CPR as needed.
- Test water quality and temperature, reporting any irregularities to management.
- Inspect and maintain the pool area daily, ensuring cleanliness, unobstructed paths, and proper access to and availability of rescue equipment.
- Enforce all pool rules and the pool schedule courteously and fairly.
- Participate in regular in-service training sessions to maintain the required fitness level for lifeguard duties.
- Provide excellent customer service by answering questions and addressing concerns of all pool patrons.
- Adhere to all facility rules and policies, including following the directions of the lifeguard on duty when not working.
- Maintain a professional appearance while on duty, wearing the required swimsuit, staff lifeguard shirt, rescue tube, fanny pack, and whistle.
- Always keep a rescue tube within arm's reach when on duty, using rescue equipment exclusively for rescues.
Job Qualifications:
- Current lifeguard certification from a recognized organization (e.g., Red Cross Lifeguarding) is preferred but not required.
- Training by a certified American Red Cross Coach will be offered by MIU upon hire.
- This certification will be good for 2 years and will include training in First Aid, CPR and AED training for the professional rescuer.
- Experience with CPR and First Aid is preferred.
- Experience in lifeguarding or aquatic facility operations is preferred.
- Strong swimming ability and knowledge of water rescue methods.
- Excellent observational skills to detect risk and prevent accidents.
- Ability to communicate effectively with a diverse group of individuals.
- Must be physically capable of performing all duties associated with the position, including rescuing swimmers in distress.
