About the Role
The Instructional Teaching Assistant is a faculty role that supports the academic mission of Maharishi International University by assisting in the instruction, mentorship, and evaluation of students in assigned courses. Under the supervision of the course instructor, the TA provides instructional support, leads discussion sections, offers academic tutoring, and evaluates student work.
The primary duty of this role is instruction and academic support of students. Teaching Assistants play a key role in MIU’s Consciousness-Based Education, engaging directly with students to enhance learning outcomes and support their academic growth.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field of study, depending on the department the Instructional TA is assigned to.
- Demonstrated academic proficiency in the subject area assigned.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Commitment to MIU’s Consciousness-Based Education, including the practice of Transcendental Meditation (TM).
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in relevant field of study depending on departmental assignment or actively pursuing advanced study.
- Prior experience in tutoring, teaching, or academic mentorship.
- Experience in grading, providing academic feedback, or leading study groups.
- Familiarity with MIU’s academic programs and integrative education approaches.
Responsibilities
- Assist in the instruction of courses by leading discussion sections, labs, or tutorials under faculty guidance.
- Provide academic mentorship and tutoring to students, ensuring comprehension of key concepts.
- Evaluate student assignments, exams, and projects, providing constructive feedback.
- Maintain accurate academic records of student progress in coordination with the course instructor.
- Support course preparation, including development of teaching materials and facilitation of classroom activities.
- Participate in faculty meetings, departmental workshops, and professional development activities.
- Contribute to creating an inclusive, supportive, and mission-aligned academic learning environment.
