Job Summary:
We are seeking a highly experienced and detail-oriented quality assurance and quality control professional to join a large-scale combustion turbine construction project in Tracy, Minnesota. This is a field-focused, contract-based role that plays a critical part in ensuring all engineering, procurement, and construction activities are executed in strict compliance with project specifications, industry standards, and contractor quality procedures. The ideal candidate will bring deep expertise in welding oversight, piping systems, and rotating equipment installation, along with a proven ability to lead through influence and collaboration in complex, high-stakes construction environments. Per diem is available for qualified candidates.
Responsibilities:
- Provide QA/QC oversight and surveillance for combustion turbine construction activities throughout the project lifecycle
- Conduct field walks and inspections to ensure EPC contractor compliance with approved quality procedures, project specifications, and applicable industry standards
- Review EPC quality documentation, welding procedures, inspection and test plans, turnover packages, and related construction records
- Monitor and oversee welding activities, including fit-up, fabrication, testing, and installation
- Verify compliance with ASME B31.1 and B31.3 piping codes for power steam and process piping systems
- Support quality audits and surveillance activities across mechanical, piping, civil, and structural scopes
- Coordinate with EPC contractors, inspectors, engineers, and project stakeholders to resolve quality issues and non-conformances
- Provide oversight for rotating equipment installation and associated testing activities
- Ensure all quality documentation is accurate, complete, and properly maintained
- Participate in punch walks, turnover activities, and final quality acceptance processes
- Utilize GIS field mapping tools and digital quality tracking systems
- Promote a strong safety and quality culture across the project site
Skills:
- Strong background in welding oversight and construction quality surveillance
- Working knowledge of ASME B31.1 Power Piping and ASME B31.3 Process Piping codes
- Familiarity with API standards related to petrochemical and industrial construction
- Experience with piping fabrication, pressure testing, and rotating equipment installation
- Ability to review and interpret drawings, specifications, welding procedures, and quality documentation
- Strong field presence with the ability to work collaboratively in a non-direct-report leadership environment
- Excellent communication, documentation, and relationship-building skills
- Familiarity with GIS field mapping systems or digital inspection platforms is a plus
- Knowledge of civil and concrete quality standards, including ACI standards, is a plus
Experience:
- 3 to 5 or more years of construction QA/QC experience in power generation, industrial, petrochemical, or heavy industrial construction
- Experience supporting combustion turbine, power plant, refinery, or large-scale EPC construction projects
- Prior experience working with major EPC contractors such as Kiewit, GE, Jacobs, or similar organizations is preferred
- Background in petrochemical or refinery construction, or heavy industrial construction environments is strongly preferred
Qualifications:
- AWS Certified Welding Inspector designation, NDE certification, or other relevant quality certifications are a plus
- Civil rebar certifications or related inspection credentials are a plus
