What are the responsibilities and job description for the Prep Cook position at Maddie's Pizza?
Maddie’s Pizzeria is a new grab-and-go pizza shop opening at 119 E. 96th St. in New York City, founded by experienced pizza operators. We’re looking for a reliable, flexible Prep / Utility team member to help set the kitchen up for success each day and support the team wherever needed.
This is a hands-on generalist role. In addition to daily food prep, you’ll help with dishwashing, restocking, receiving deliveries, organization, and general kitchen support to keep the operation running smoothly.
Reports To: Owner-Operator
Schedule: Full-time; primarily early morning and midday shifts
Key Responsibilities
- Wash, chop, portion, and store produce, meats, cheeses, and other ingredients according to recipe specifications
- Prepare sauces, dough components, and other made-in-house items for daily service
- Label, date, and rotate inventory using FIFO procedures
- Keep prep areas, storage spaces, and kitchen equipment clean, sanitized, and organized
- Follow food safety and NYC health department standards at all times
- Receive deliveries, check items against invoices, and report shortages or discrepancies to the Owner-Operator
- Restock kitchen stations and supplies throughout the day
- Assist with dishwashing, cleaning, and general kitchen support as needed
- Jump in to help the counter or other team members during busy periods when required
- Help maintain an organized back-of-house so the kitchen is ready for each service
Qualifications
- Previous kitchen, prep cook, or utility experience preferred
- Basic knife skills and familiarity with common kitchen equipment
- Strong attention to cleanliness, organization, and food safety
- Reliable, punctual, flexible, and willing to help wherever needed
- Able to work independently and follow prep lists and instructions
- Food handler certification or willingness to obtain one within 30 days
Physical Requirements
- Able to stand for shifts of up to 8 hours
- Able to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Comfortable working near walk-in coolers and freezers
- Comfortable performing repetitive prep tasks such as chopping, portioning, lifting, and stocking
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced kitchen environment
Pay: $17.00 - $21.00 per hour
