What are the responsibilities and job description for the Barista position at Maddie's Pizza?
Maddie’s Pizzeria is a new grab-and-go pizza shop opening at 119 E. 96th St. in New York City, founded by experienced pizza operators. We’re looking for a friendly, dependable Barista to run our small espresso counter alongside our pizza and counter service.
This is a great fit for someone who takes pride in making a great cup of coffee, enjoys quick guest interactions, and can keep a small coffee station organized and moving during busy morning and midday periods.
Pay: Starting at $17/hour _ tips_
Job Type: Full-time and part-time
Reports To: Owner-Operator
Schedule: Morning and midday availability preferred
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare espresso drinks, drip coffee, and other beverages to Maddie’s standards
- Operate the espresso machine and grinder safely and consistently
- Complete basic daily cleaning and maintenance of coffee equipment
- Take guest orders and accurately enter them into the POS system
- Keep the coffee counter clean, organized, and fully stocked throughout service
- Restock cups, milk, coffee, syrups, and other supplies as needed
- Deliver quick, friendly service during morning and midday rushes
- Communicate with the counter team to keep guest orders moving smoothly
- Assist with light counter support and general front-of-house needs when needed
Qualifications
- Previous barista or coffee-counter experience preferred
- Experience preparing espresso-based drinks
- Latte art experience is a strong plus
- Friendly, dependable, and comfortable interacting with guests
- Able to stay organized and efficient during busy service periods
- Comfortable using or learning a POS system
- NYC Food Protection Certificate or willingness to obtain one
- Team-oriented and willing to help wherever needed in a small operation
Physical Requirements
- Able to stand for shifts of up to 8 hours
- Able to lift and carry supplies commonly used at a coffee station
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced, high-traffic counter environment
- Able to perform repetitive tasks such as preparing drinks, restocking, and cleaning
Pay: From $17.00 per hour
