Responsibilities of the Project Accountant:
- Maintain and update project financial records, including budgets, cost tracking, and job costing within accounting systems
- Prepare, review, and process client billings in accordance with contract terms, project milestones, and billing schedules
- Monitor project performance by tracking expenses, revenue recognition, and work-in-progress (WIP) reporting
- Support month-end and year-end close processes, including journal entries, reconciliations, and financial reporting assistance
- Collaborate with Project Managers to ensure accurate forecasting, budget alignment, and financial accountability across active projects
- Process accounts payable and accounts receivable transactions related to assigned projects while ensuring accuracy and compliance
- Assist with audit preparation, compliance reporting, and documentation of project financials for internal and external review
Qualifications for the Project Accountant:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field preferred
- 2–4 years of experience in project accounting, construction accounting, or related financial support roles strongly preferred
- Proficiency in accounting systems and ERP platforms (such as Deltek, Sage, Viewpoint, or similar) preferred
- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, with advanced Excel skills for reporting and analysis
- High attention to detail with strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across project teams and leadership
- Strong analytical mindset with the ability to identify discrepancies, solve problems, and maintain financial accuracy under deadlines
