Screw Machine Maintenance Technician

Role Overview

The Maintenance & Repair Technician plays a pivotal role in ensuring the peak performance, upkeep, and restoration of our multi-spindle screw machine fleet, specifically Wickman and ACME models. This is a hands-on technical position where you will drive production success by executing preventative maintenance, resolving mechanical malfunctions, assisting with machine configurations, and operating equipment as necessary. We are seeking a candidate who combines technical mechanical expertise with a sharp focus on troubleshooting, equipment longevity, quality standards, and workplace safety.

• Identify mechanical issues, pinpoint root causes, and implement rapid repairs to ensure maximum equipment availability.
• Execute comprehensive repairs, both major and minor, on all multi-spindle screw machines and auxiliary production hardware.
• Operate screw machines as required to meet our ongoing production targets.
• Support the team by assisting with machine changeovers, setups, fine-tuning, and adjustments for diverse production runs.
• Monitor equipment for signs of wear, detect potential failure points, and suggest proactive maintenance or part replacements.
• Ensure all maintenance activities, repair histories, and parts consumption are documented with precision.
• Contribute to the success of our preventative maintenance programs and continuous improvement efforts to boost overall machine reliability.
• Facilitate machine upgrades, tooling modifications, and various process improvement projects.
• Help foster a culture of safety and excellence by providing guidance to operators on proper machine care and routine maintenance.
• Ensure every task performed adheres strictly to established quality standards and company safety protocols.
• Take ownership of your work to ensure all repairs meet exact specifications, thereby helping the team deliver high-quality products.
• Complete additional tasks and responsibilities as directed by leadership.

Qualifications

Education

• High School diploma or GED equivalent.

Work Experience

• Minimum of five (5) years of hands-on experience in the setup, operation, maintenance, and repair of Wickman or ACME Multi-Spindle Screw Machines.
• Demonstrated history of performing mechanical diagnostics and equipment repairs within a manufacturing setting.
• Prior experience working with preventative maintenance systems is highly desirable.

Skills

• Demonstrate advanced mechanical troubleshooting and repair capabilities, including both major and minor servicing of ACME and Wickman multi-spindle screw machines.
• Possess a working knowledge of gears, cams, center height adjustments, machine tooling setups, and Reed thread roll heads.
• Utilize mathematical skills to determine RPMs, feed rates, and the geometry required for machining operations and setups.
• Sharpen and maintain production tooling, including cut-off blades, to ensure optimal performance.
• Read and interpret complex blueprints, engineering specifications, mechanical drawings, and tooling documentation.
• Exhibit proficiency with precision measurement tools such as calipers, micrometers, thread gauges, and indicators.
• Apply a working knowledge of manufacturing processes, machining principles, alloys, and metals.
• Utilize strong analytical and problem-solving skills to resolve complex technical challenges.
• Maintain a high level of attention to detail to ensure the consistent production of high-quality components.
• Work effectively in a fast-paced manufacturing environment, managing multiple priorities independently.
• Communicate clearly and collaborate effectively with production team members.
• Previous experience working in a production or manufacturing facility.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to perform physical tasks including bending, climbing, lifting, stooping, pushing, and pulling.
• Maintain the ability to stand or walk for continuous periods.
• Perform moderate physical labor, frequently handling weights between ten and fifty pounds or continuously handling lighter items.
• Work in environments that may be noisy, dusty, or hot.
• Demonstrate flexibility to work overtime hours as required by sales volume.
• Willingness to work occasional weekends to meet production demands.
