Job Overview
The CNC Lathe Operator will be responsible for setting up machines, programming or editing programs, and running CNC lathe machines to produce precision parts in accordance with blueprints and job specifications. This role supports production goals by ensuring consistent part quality, conducting thorough inspections, and communicating any issues to the machining or engineering teams as necessary. The position follows a regular weekday schedule, with occasional overtime available based on production demands.
Key Responsibilities
- Set up and operate CNC lathe machines to produce precision machined parts.
- Program, edit, or adjust CNC programs using drawings and job travelers.
- Operate Haas and Mazak CNC lathe equipment.
- Perform secondary operations such as deburring, grinding, drilling, or tapping.
- Inspect parts using calipers, micrometers, pin gauges, and other basic measuring tools to ensure accuracy.
- Monitor part quality and make offsets or adjustments as required to maintain specifications.
- Communicate production or quality concerns to machinists or engineering staff, ensuring smooth workflow.
- Help maintain safe work practices and keep the work area clean and organized for everyone's benefit.
- Assist in other shop areas as needed to support production flow.
- Minimum 1 year of CNC lathe or CNC turning experience in a shop environment.
- Ability to interpret blueprints and follow job travelers.
- Proficiency in using basic inspection and measuring tools.
- Basic math skills, including decimals and metric measurements.
- Ability to lift up to 40 lbs and stand for the duration of the shift.
- Ability to perform duties in a manufacturing environment that is not climate-controlled.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Ability to read and write in English.
- 1–2 years of CNC turning experience.
- Familiarity with Haas or Mazak lathe machines.
- Exposure to Mastercam or conversational programming.
- Experience producing parts for packaging equipment or machine rebuilds.
