The Instrument and Controls Engineer is responsible for the design, development, commissioning, and support of industrial automation systems. Core focus areas include PLC programming, HMI/SCADA development, system commissioning, and long-term system support. This role spans multiple industries and platforms and may involve responsibilities ranging from hands-on execution to technical leadership and oversight, depending on experience level.

- PlantPAx system experience
- PLC programming, primarily Allen‑Bradley RSLogix and Studio 5000
- SCADA and HMI development, primarily Ignition, AVEVA, and FactoryTalk View
PLC Programming
- Develop and modify PLC code ranging from discrete logic to full system programs
- Define and implement UDTs and AOIs
- Review, guide, and oversee work performed by other engineers or programmers
- Develop operator interface and HMI applications using standardized objects and templates
- Create graphics, UDTs, reusable templates, and full HMI solutions
- Configure HMI platforms, historians, reporting, and related infrastructure
- Provide technical direction and review for HMI development efforts
- Execute and oversee IO checkout, loop testing, and signal validation
- Configure PLC firmware, communication modules, VFDs, and instrumentation
- Lead commissioning activities and execute system test plans
- Provide on-site and remote system support as required
- Author and review training materials
- Develop control narratives and functional test documents
- Provide oversight and direction for documentation produced by others
- Provide oversight and support for project management activities
- Coordinate technical execution across disciplines and project phases
- Mentor junior engineers and enforce engineering standards and best practices
- Experience with secondary or tertiary PLC or HMI platforms
- GAMP or regulated industry knowledge
- Certifications relevant to automation, controls, or safety
- Sales or business development exposure
- Strong system configuration skills for PC OS, OITs, and industrial networks
- Depth of experience demonstrated through time in industry or progression of responsibility
Salary : $60,000 - $150,000
