Construction Engineering Inspector
Location: Michigan

We are seeking a Construction Engineering Inspector to support transportation and municipal infrastructure projects throughout Michigan. This position is responsible for inspecting construction activities in the field, ensuring compliance with project plans and specifications, documenting project progress, and coordinating with contractors, project managers, engineers, and agency representatives. The ideal candidate will have experience with roadway, bridge, utility, and municipal construction projects.
- Perform field inspections on transportation and municipal construction projects.
- Monitor contractor activities to ensure compliance with plans, specifications, permits, and contract requirements.
- Inspect roadway, bridge, utility, stormwater, grading, paving, and site development construction.
- Measure quantities and verify installed materials for payment estimates and project documentation.
- Coordinate with project managers, engineers, contractors, and agency representatives.
- Prepare daily inspection reports and maintain accurate project records.
- Review contractor work and identify deficiencies requiring corrective action.
- Assist with materials testing, quality control, and compliance verification.
- Attend project meetings and provide construction updates to key stakeholders.
- Support successful project delivery through accurate documentation and communication.
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Civil Engineering Technology, Construction Management, or a related field preferred.
- Experience in construction inspection, transportation engineering, municipal infrastructure, or heavy civil construction.
- Knowledge of roadway, bridge, utility, water main, sanitary sewer, and stormwater construction practices.
- Ability to read and interpret construction plans, specifications, contracts, and technical documents.
- Strong technical writing, organizational, and communication skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and construction documentation software.
- Valid driver's license with the ability to travel to project sites throughout Michigan.
- MDOT construction inspection experience.
- Experience with roadway or bridge construction inspection.
- Certifications related to concrete testing, asphalt inspection, erosion control, bridge inspection, or transportation construction.
- Familiarity with state and federal transportation project requirements.
- Experience working on municipal infrastructure improvement projects.
