A mission-driven nonprofit organization with a long-standing national presence is seeking a strategic and hands-on Chief Financial Officer to lead all aspects of finance, accounting, investments, treasury, and organizational financial planning. This is a unique opportunity for an experienced financial leader who enjoys balancing high-level strategy with day-to-day execution. The CFO will serve as a key advisor to executive leadership, oversee a lean but dedicated accounting team, and play a critical role in guiding the organization through a significant operational integration initiative. The ideal candidate is a CPA with strong nonprofit financial leadership experience, investment oversight expertise, and the ability to communicate complex financial matters to a wide range of stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic leadership for all accounting, finance, treasury, budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting functions
  • Lead the organization's financial planning process, including long-range financial strategies and annual operating budgets
  • Oversee month-end, year-end, audit preparation, and regulatory reporting requirements
  • Partner with executive leadership to support organizational growth and long-term sustainability
  • Manage relationships with auditors, banking partners, investment advisors, trustees, and other external stakeholders
  • Monitor and oversee significant investment portfolios, endowments, trusts, and related financial assets
  • Evaluate and improve financial systems, processes, internal controls, and reporting capabilities
  • Lead financial due diligence and integration efforts related to organizational unification and system consolidation initiatives
  • Present financial results, recommendations, and strategic insights to executive leadership and governing committees
  • Ensure compliance with nonprofit accounting standards, tax regulations, and reporting requirements
  • Oversee payroll, benefits administration, insurance programs, and vendor relationships
  • Mentor and develop accounting staff while fostering a collaborative team environment

Qualifications

  • Active CPA designation
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • 10 years of progressive accounting and finance leadership experience
  • Strong knowledge of nonprofit accounting principles and tax regulations
  • Experience overseeing audits, budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting
  • Demonstrated success leading teams and managing financial operations
  • Ability to work both strategically and tactically in a lean organization

Preferred

  • Experience leading mergers, integrations, consolidations, or organizational unification initiatives
  • Oversight of investment portfolios, endowments, trusts, or foundation assets
  • Advanced degree (MBA, MS Accounting, Finance, or related discipline)
  • Experience evaluating and implementing financial systems and process improvements

Salary : $180,000 - $220,000
