Key Responsibilities
- Provide strategic leadership for all accounting, finance, treasury, budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting functions
- Lead the organization's financial planning process, including long-range financial strategies and annual operating budgets
- Oversee month-end, year-end, audit preparation, and regulatory reporting requirements
- Partner with executive leadership to support organizational growth and long-term sustainability
- Manage relationships with auditors, banking partners, investment advisors, trustees, and other external stakeholders
- Monitor and oversee significant investment portfolios, endowments, trusts, and related financial assets
- Evaluate and improve financial systems, processes, internal controls, and reporting capabilities
- Lead financial due diligence and integration efforts related to organizational unification and system consolidation initiatives
- Present financial results, recommendations, and strategic insights to executive leadership and governing committees
- Ensure compliance with nonprofit accounting standards, tax regulations, and reporting requirements
- Oversee payroll, benefits administration, insurance programs, and vendor relationships
- Mentor and develop accounting staff while fostering a collaborative team environment
Qualifications
- Active CPA designation
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- 10 years of progressive accounting and finance leadership experience
- Strong knowledge of nonprofit accounting principles and tax regulations
- Experience overseeing audits, budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting
- Demonstrated success leading teams and managing financial operations
- Ability to work both strategically and tactically in a lean organization
Preferred
- Experience leading mergers, integrations, consolidations, or organizational unification initiatives
- Oversight of investment portfolios, endowments, trusts, or foundation assets
- Advanced degree (MBA, MS Accounting, Finance, or related discipline)
- Experience evaluating and implementing financial systems and process improvements
