Role Overview:
Responsible for supporting sterile processing operations by performing tasks such as decontamination, inspection, sterilization, and assembly of surgical instruments and equipment. Acts as a leader in the absence of the SPD Manager, organizing workflow and ensuring safety and quality standards are met. Maintains up-to-date knowledge through ongoing education and participates in departmental activities to improve processes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Receive, sort, clean, and decontaminate instruments per manufacturer guidelines
- Operate cleaning and sterilization machinery
- Inspect, assemble, and sterilize surgical tools, preparing trays and monitoring sterilizers
- Assist with staff training, competency testing, and department management
- Collaborate with staff and management for smooth operations and accurate documentation
- Troubleshoot operational issues and support decision-making
- High School Diploma or GED
- Minimum of three years of sterile processing experience
- Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) or CSPDT
- Certified Endoscopy Reprocessor (CER) or obtain within one year
- Preferred: Certified Instrument Specialist (CIS)
