Job Description:
Job Title: Sterile Processing Coordinator
Location: Long Beach, CA
Shift: 2nd Shift – 3:00 PM to 11:30 PM
Contract Type: 13-week contract to permanent
Job Summary
The Sterile Processing Coordinator oversees the daily operations of the sterile processing department to ensure efficient workflow, regulatory compliance, and high-quality service. This position provides leadership and direction to sterile processing technicians, ensuring that surgical instruments and equipment are properly cleaned, assembled, sterilized, and distributed. The Coordinator plays a key role in maintaining patient safety, infection control, and operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise sterile processing technicians and coordinate shift assignments to ensure proper coverage and workflow
- Monitor all decontamination, assembly, sterilization, and distribution processes
- Ensure compliance with ANSI/AAMI standards, manufacturer IFUs, and company SOPs
- Conduct and review quality assurance audits to maintain documentation accuracy and compliance
- Train, mentor, and support professional development of sterile processing staff
- Manage and oversee maintenance, calibration, and troubleshooting of sterilization equipment
- Collaborate with leadership teams on scheduling, timekeeping, and operational goals
- Partner with surgical and clinical departments to ensure timely instrument availability
- Promote and enforce safety, infection control, and regulatory compliance across operations
- Address customer service issues and communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders
- Support supply management and assist in maintaining adequate inventory levels
- Participate in continuous improvement projects and monitor performance metrics (KPIs)
- Provide direct supervision of all sterile processing staff during assigned shift
- Perform other duties as assigned by management
Working Conditions
This role operates in a fast-paced, hospital-based sterile processing environment. Exposure to biohazardous materials, cleaning agents, and sterilization equipment is routine. Proper PPE and adherence to safety protocols are required at all times.
Required Education:
- High school diploma or equivalent
Preferred Education:
- College degree or three-plus years of leadership experience
Required Certifications & Licensure:
- CRCST (Certified Registered Central Service Technician)
Preferred Certifications & Licensure:
- CIS (Certified Instrument Specialist)
- HSPA-CHL (Certified Healthcare Leader)
