Job Summary

We are seeking a detail-oriented and reliable Locate Technician to join our team in Hilton, KS. The Locate Technician will be responsible for identifying and marking underground utility lines to ensure safe excavation and construction activities. This role requires strong communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently in the field.

Key Responsibilities

• Locate and mark underground utilities such as gas, water, electric, and telecommunications lines using specialized equipment.
• Respond to locate requests in a timely manner and ensure accurate marking according to industry standards and regulations.
• Communicate effectively with contractors, utility companies, and other stakeholders to coordinate locate activities.
• Maintain detailed records of locate activities, including maps, reports, and documentation.
• Operate and maintain locate equipment and tools safely and efficiently.
• Follow all safety protocols and comply with local, state, and federal regulations related to underground utility locating.
• Assist in training new technicians as needed.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Previous experience in utility locating, construction, or related field preferred.
• Knowledge of underground utility systems and industry color codes.
• Ability to read and interpret maps, blueprints, and technical drawings.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
• Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
• Physical ability to perform fieldwork, including walking, bending, and lifting.

Work Environment

This position involves working primarily outdoors in the Hilton, KS area. The Locate Technician will spend significant time in the field, often walking on uneven terrain and near active construction sites. Safety is a top priority, and adherence to all safety guidelines is required.
