Job Summary

We are seeking a detail-oriented and safety-conscious Locate Technician to join our team in Topeka, KS. The Locate Technician will be responsible for identifying and marking underground utility lines to ensure safe excavation and construction activities. This role requires strong communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently in various weather conditions.

Key Responsibilities

• Respond to locate requests and accurately identify underground utilities using maps, blueprints, and electronic locating equipment.
• Mark utility lines clearly and accurately using paint, flags, or stakes according to industry standards and local regulations.
• Communicate effectively with contractors, utility companies, and property owners to provide locate information and ensure safety.
• Maintain detailed records of locate activities, including location reports and documentation of any discrepancies or issues.
• Operate and maintain locating equipment and tools in good working condition.
• Follow all safety protocols and comply with federal, state, and local regulations related to underground utility locating.
• Work outdoors in various weather conditions and navigate different types of terrain.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Previous experience in utility locating, construction, or a related field preferred.
• Knowledge of underground utility systems and industry locating standards.
• Ability to read and interpret maps, blueprints, and technical drawings.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
• Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
• Physical ability to perform outdoor work, including walking, bending, and lifting equipment.
