Graduate Assistant position serves as a live-in professional staff member with the Residence Life Department and Student Activities Department. Within Residence Life, this position focuses on enhancing the quality of life of students in the assigned apartment area, fostering community, being attentive to safety and security of residents and assisting with facility operations. Within Student Activities, this position will assist in planning, promoting, and managing a broad spectrum of campus activities and programs which will cultivate a vibrant/active social life and help to nurture student leadership and development
This position will work daily with the Residence Life Department and the Student Activities Leadership team. It is crucial that an individual be able to relate well to others and handle administrative responsibilities. This position requires an individual who is flexible to assume a variety of roles and responsibilities.
Residence Life responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
- Developing an environment conducive to the academic, social, and personal success for each student
- Supervision of a diverse residential campus of students
- Supervision and training of RA staff
- Monitor maintenance concerns
- Maintain accurate and up to date records of residents and files
- Active member of Student Services/Residence Life Team
- Maintain regular office hours in the Residence Life Department
- Assist in housing processes
- Participate in On-Call Schedule and Weekend Duty
- Capable of responding to various issues and emergency situations
- Participate and volunteer with various Residence Life/Student Services operational needs and services
- Some weekends required
- Other duties and responsibilities as assigned
Graduate Assistant for Student Activities responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
- Coordinate and implement Student Activities programs
- Coordinate and implement Student Activities Board programs
- Create effective marketing strategies for programs and events sponsored by Student Activities
- Provide functional event support and management for all Student Activities and Student Activities Board events.
- Supervise the Cralle Student Union Building activity area(s)
- Supervise work-study employees assigned to activity area(s)
- Maintaining supplies and materials for the activity area(s)
- Some weekends may be required
- Other duties and responsibilities as assigned
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree required, will consider application if Bachelor’s Degree is not yet conferred
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Excellent organizational and time management skills
- Ability to interact with diverse cultures and individuals
- Work effectively individually and as a team member
- Ability to have good judgment and make sound decisions
- Basic computer skills
- Basic social media skills
Remuneration:
- Salary - $6000 stipend, 10-month part time contract
- Unfurnished apartment w/streaming service(s) and basic utilities included
- Meal plan (when cafeteria is open for meals)
- Graduate tuition up to 18hrs per year (tuition rate must not exceed LWU graduate program)
- Position is not eligible for health insurance or retirement program(s).
