JOB SUMMARY
This position performs technical duties in the installation, maintenance and repair of plumbing systems.
MAJOR DUTIES
Performs scheduled maintenance of plumbing systems in county buildings; performs other maintenance and repair duties as assigned.
Diagnoses malfunctions and completes repairs.
Estimates time and material for each project; maintains related records.
Determines the need for the replacement of plumbing systems; develops plans and specifications.
Clears clogged drains and sewer lines.
Install, repair, and maintain plumbing systems and fixtures.
Maintains and repairs grinder pumps associated with County facilities.
Reads blueprints, equipment diagrams, and drawings.
Works with county departments to schedule and coordinate work.
Remains informed to updates to plumbing codes and requirements.
Assists with snow removal operations.
Performs other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION
Knowledge of plumbing system inspection principles.
Knowledge of the operation, repair and maintenance of plumbing equipment.
Knowledge of testing instruments.
Knowledge of computers and job-related software programs.
Knowledge of safe work principles and standards.

SUPERVISORY CONTROLS
The Facilities Maintenance Supervisor assigns work in terms of general instructions. The supervisor spot-checks completed work for compliance with procedures, accuracy, and the nature and propriety of the final results.
GUIDELINES
Guidelines include EPA regulations, building codes, federal and state guidelines, ADA requirements, OSHA regulations, insurance regulations, and county and department policies and procedures. These guidelines are generally clear and specific but may require some interpretation in application.
COMPLEXITY/SCOPE OF WORK
The work consists of related technical duties. The necessity of working in the presence of staff and the general public contributes to the complexity of the position.
The purpose of this position is to perform technical duties in the repair and maintenance of county plumbing systems. Success in this position contributes to the provision of a safe and well-maintained environment for county operations.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ WORK ENVIRONMENT
The work is typically performed while intermittently sitting, standing, stooping, walking, bending or crouching. The employee frequently lifts light and heavy objects, climbs ladders, uses tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity, distinguishes between shades of color, and utilizes the sense of smell.
The work is typically performed in an office, stockroom, warehouse and outdoors, occasionally in cold or inclement weather. The employee is exposed to noise, dust, dirt, grease, machinery with moving parts, contagious or infectious diseases, or irritating chemicals. Work requires the use of protective devices such as masks, goggles, gloves, etc.
SUPERVISORY AND MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITY
None.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with completion of specialized training in the field of work, in addition to basic skills typically associated with a high school education.
Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/ internship or having had a similar position for three to four years.
Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver's license issued by the State of North Carolina for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
Possession of or ability to readily obtain appropriate plumbing certification issued by the State of North Carolina.
