General Summary
Under the direction of the 2-1-1 Program Supervisor, the 2-1-1 Resource Specialist oversees the creation and ongoing maintenance of the regional community resource database for the Central Michigan 2-1-1 program. This position communicates community and program changes to the Information & Referral Specialists. This position serves as the liaison between Central Michigan 2-1-1 and the communities it serves.
Essential Functions
- Maintains and ensures the accuracy and completeness of organizational data in the community resource database through continual updates and repair.
- Ensures assignment of appropriate AIRS (Alliance of Information & Referral Systems) Taxonomy codes to all entries in the community resource database.
- Actively participates in community meetings and/or networking activities to secure resource database information.
- Assists in communicating community, policy, or procedure changes to the Central Michigan 2-1-1 Team.
- Ensures database compliance of national AIRS standards and protocols.
- Responsible for adherence to all Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) and Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) standards.
- Maintains regular and predictable attendance.
- All other duties as assigned.

Job Specifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)
- One to three years’ experience in call center or office setting, preferred.
- Knowledge in social services system, governmental bodies, and Mid-Michigan geographical area.
- Demonstrates critical thinking and analysis skills.
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, verbally and in written format.
- Possesses capability to network in social events to promote program, gain community awareness and support.
- Demonstrates excellent customer service skills to all stakeholders.
- Ability to work as a member of a team and ability to work independently, as needed.
- Able to research information as needed utilizing resources including, but not limited to industry-related software, AIRS Standards for Professional Information and Referral and Quality Indicators.
- Works effectively with people of diverse ethnic and socio/economic backgrounds and mentally ill individuals in a respectful and positive manner.
- Proficiency/Intermediate-to-advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook); and internet applications, including Electronic Medical Record. Ability to navigate LifeWays Intranet.
- Professional in appearance and demeanor, telephone, and interpersonal communications.
- Establish and maintains professional working relationships with consumers, staff, providers, and community partners.
- Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and other confidentiality regulations compliance required.
- Experienced using office equipment, including but not limited to cellular telephone; desktop VoIP telephone/voicemail; copier/fax program/scanner/printer; computer; and calculator.
Required Education/Certification/Licensure
- Associate’s degree with an emphasis in human services, psychology, sociology, or social service.
- AIRS Certified Database Curator upon employment.
- Mental Health First Aid Training, upon hire.
Preferred Education / Certification/Licensure
- Bachelor’s degree with an emphasis in human or social services.
