Job Purpose:
- The Camp Head Chef/Cook oversees all daily kitchen and meal service operations for a residential summer camp serving youth living with diabetes. This role is crucial in ensuring that all meals are nutritious, delicious, and prepared in accordance with dietary needs and camp schedules.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead all back-of-house kitchen operations during orientation and camp sessions.
- Plan, prep, cook, and serve meals according to established camp menus and schedules.
- Supervise and delegate tasks to kitchen assistant and nutrition staff.
- Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations in all kitchen activities.
- Maintain an organized and efficient kitchen environment.
- Manage inventory, order supplies, and ensure adequate stock levels.
- Collaborate with camp staff to accommodate special dietary needs and requests.
- Train and mentor kitchen staff, fostering a positive and productive work environment.
- Monitor food quality and presentation to maintain high standards.
- Coordinate with camp management to align meal services with camp activities and schedules.
Required Education:
- High school diploma or equivalent; culinary certification or degree preferred
Required Experience:
- Previous experience as a lead cook, chef, sous chef, or kitchen manager
- Experience in high-volume foodservice, camps, schools, healthcare, or institutional dining strongly preferred
Required Skills and Abilities:
- Ability to stand for extended periods
- Capability to lift and carry up to 40 pounds
- Proficiency in working in hot kitchen environments
- Ability to bend, reach, push, pull, and transport food carts or supplies
- Strong leadership and supervisory skills to effectively manage kitchen staff
